Mario Galaxy hands down deserves Game of the Year in my opinion. I actually wasn't going to pick this game up because I didn't think I'd like it (I assumed it was just planet hopping) and I wanted to save my money for some other games, but the half-off deal at Toys R' Us sealed the deal. I'm glad I did get it, because this was the best platformer I have played in years. The gravity effects were the best part of the game, and they were implented well. I really didn't have to think too much about things. I would try something, and the game would read my mind and it would work. That's how 3D is supposed to be, but it usually isn't when it comes to games.
Bioshock comes in at a distant second, but not because it's fun to play (because I don't think it is). I've never cared for FPS games (despite playing a messload of them thoroughly), but BioShock doesn't have that crummy feel like most of them do. Although it was far from blowing me away, I have to give it points for the atmosphere and detail of the entire package. It's one of the few games that I can say is pretty much flawless, but what I mean is that I can't knock it for anything. As for pure entertainment, I can't say it was thrilling, but I have to concede that it was impressive. I wonder if that makes sense.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
