Who else mailed taxes today?
I had done my federal and California state taxes, like, two months ago (actually got both of the refunds already), but last night I realized I had never filed my Pennsylvania state and local taxes. Panic ensued as I rushed to fill them out so I could get the early collection time at my workplace, though I did bump into three people I knew also using photocopiers to make copies for themselves.
My federal refund was pretty good, around $1200. I also got around $300 back from California. Unfortunately I owed about $500 to Pennsylvania, since apparently they changed their tax rate and CA's is no longer higher. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Pennsylvania has a flat state tax around 3%, then local areas can impose up to a 1% income tax (though it's only on wages and not stuff like pension payouts, interest, and money made that wasn't compensation for a job).
While I moved to CA a few years ago, I'm a student, and as such don't actually have to change residency. I had planned to move back out east after graduating, so I kept my residency there. In previous years I didn't have to pay any PA taxes since I was taxed higher in in CA, but I guess some stuff changed in one state or the other since I wound up having to shell out a bit of money this year. ![]() Right now here in CA I have to pay 4% on anything made over $16,500 (total tax below that was something like $400). I think there's another bracket around $40k where it's 6%! Most amazing jew boots |
