Keep in mind the relative size of our countries. Some retailers offer California Overnight which is a special service that'll deliver anything in CA, AZ, and NM (I think it includes NM) for dirt cheap since they have to distribute over a much smaller area. Economies of scale seem to work backwards a bit when you've got over three million square miles of land to cover (England is ~2.5% the size of the US).
