So I've been playing this game on Ultra Low settings, and I have to say it's kinda lame. I mean, the game looks worse than Morrowind did, and it also runs a bit worse. At least the gameplay's a lot more fun.

Also, what's all of your opinions on 2H blade vs. blade + shield? I've been alternating back and forth and just can't make my mind up. =\

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Trees aren't always "popping" up, and it seems very fluid. Sure, loading screens are way too common in the cities, but what are you gonna do.
Yeah, I watched my roommate playing the game on his computer and just about everything was up at max settings. It really is a beautiful looking game. It's hilarious without dynamic lighting, though. There's all the stuff where he can't make out things in the distance of a cave or has issues seeing at night and I'm kinda like, "What?".

Oh yeah, is silver the only type of weapon that's effective against ghosts? I've been carrying around a silver longsword for a while now, and I want to know if I can ditch it in favor of an elven or dwarven one (or if I have to wait for something better).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yarg, so silver's the only non-enchanted sword I can use? Looks like I'm lugging that POS around forever, then. =(

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well, after just encounting some really tough ghosts, I'm wanting an enchanted silver sword. >.>

It was for the quest involving the ghost where you have to unchain his body from the hold of a wrecked ship. My glass longsword has an attack of 19 and I was forced to use a crappy-ass silver sword with an attack of 10. Took me about ten tries to get through each room (and for the first time in the game I actually had to use healing potions). =\

Around level 15 now, I probably ought to get back to the main storyline since the last thing I did for it was taking that dude up to the place in the north after sealing the first Oblivion gate. >.>

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

After reading through some of the books in the game, it looks like only silver and swords with magic spells on them will work. I think they gave most ghosts low HP so even though you're using a weakass silver sword you can still kill them without too much of a hassle (though when they group up on you it can be bad). If that fails, get some cheap dagger that has an enchantment to do damage on it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yeah, that's the patch that made it so I was able to play the game.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Set everything as low as possible in the Launcher, then go into the game and turn everything either as low as it goes or off. The only settings I have at the non-lowest setting are View Distances (items, people, and landscape). Those are set halfway up the slider.

Gameplay only really lags for me when I've been playing for a long time or I'm near water.

I've heard of this thing called fun gameplay.

I guess the thing is I've never spent the money to build a really powerful computer to play any of the latest games, so I've always been satisfied to play games at mid-low settings. Heck, I remember back when I used to be happy when my computer could pull 15fps during a normal game of CounterStrike.

I've always felt the most important part of a game is the gameplay, and if that's done very well, then everything else doesn't really matter. Oblivion's gameplay is so much better than Morrowind's (I can swing my sword and actually hit stuff!) and there isn't an ungodly amount of text (that I have to read) like most other PC RPGs, so this game is just something that's completely different from what I'm used to playing and even though it might look like complete ass, the fun of running across massive fields, finding some new armor, and beating that really tought boss, are all still the same.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I think it's also one of the reasons that I couldn't bring myself to buy Oblivion. Since they've decided to stop releasing demos for games nowadays, I've generally stopped bothering to buy the game since odds are it won't run well on my computer and I don't know of any stores that take back open box games (I remember Egghead Software used to long long ago, but I don't think EB Games or Gamestop do), so I've kinda been forced into pirating games to see if they'll even run in the first place (and by that point, unless there's some super compelling reason to buy the game, I never bother with it). =\

Guess I might not mind playing the game at low settings since I didn't shell out $50 for it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
