I bought a used PSP on a whim, and it works fine and everything, but now I'm paying for it with a slightly wonky dpad with a down button that acts up 10% of the time. L and R buttons are sort of clicky too, but it works fine on the whole.
Other than, I stay away from used consoles. One of my friends' PS2s is rather unresponsive and reads games if you're lucky (as in twice within 12 hours of trying). As well, stores don't seem to even check the consoles traded in. I luckily got a modded PS1 back then, and traded it in when I fried it by accident. No one's complained to me yet. Same for my GBA SP where I busted the L and R buttons. :3
I buy used games quite a lot. The yellow sticker deal thinigie for EB's used games is a gigantic incentive, as well as cheaper prices on the whole. I don't care how busted up the box is, or if there's no manual. The games usually work fine, and don't come with tons of scratches or anything. Most people usually take better care of their discs nowadays.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
