Anyone check out the new videos of Sonic at IGN? I think I am officially sold on it. From their recent playtest, even IGN said it is the best sonic game since the 2d ones. It is supposed to have pretty much flawless motion controls too. Also, they stated that it is the first game that actually looks like it takes advantage of the Wii's hardware.
Most amazing jew boots |
No, but many of the action games that are currently out take piss poor advantage of the hardware. I am speaking in terms of graphics. Most of the current Wii games don't even look as good as gamecube games. Sonic seems to actually be somewhat using that extra horsepower. Also, many current action games on the console have shit motion controls. Example: Marvel ultimate alliance. Who thought up the idea to have the camara rotation based based on the tilt of the nunchuck. and moving the nunchuck up to jump?!?!?! who wants to do that? Its like they didn't even think about the practicality of it. Further, Metal Slug. if they even thought for a second the obvious use of the Wii remote would be this. The nunchuck analog performs movement from left to right, the wii remote pointer acts as an aimer for the gun, much like a mouse. Wherever you point on the screen, the gun points, and the players animation follows in rotation in accordance withe the wiimotes position on screen. An obvious solution that apparently was not obvious to the devs.
So in short, my point is Sonics motion controls seem to be logical simplistic and natural to the design of the wiispecific controller. Thus it takes advantage of the hardware better than any current action game on the system. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well I got Sonic today and I gotta say I am not dissapointed at all. I really honestly enjoy the game. The graphics are awsome, finally someone is using my Wii the right way
The gameplay is great. Finally I feel like I am playing a twitch action 2d game but it is in 3d and looks awsome. Good job Sonic team finally. Yes the music is bad, and I mean bad, but at least its kinda funny. So far the stuff that plays in the levels is not as bad as the menu music. Really I can honestly say you can throw IGNs reveiw out the window. I would say a 7.5 is more accurate but I would even go as far as giving it an 8.0. THE CONTROL ISSUE IS NOT AS BAD AS THEY SAY IT IS. So far I have had little trouble with the controls. Yes you need to get used to them but literaly it takes one run through the level to get you used to the control scheme. Really, the backing up thing is the only issue so far, but once you get used to it it really posses no problem at all. Surely not enough to knock the score down as far as IGN did.Honestly it hasn't caused me any problems yet except for the initial learning of how to back up. Maybe it will piss me off later, who knows but so far no big deal. I would suggest that anyone with a Wii at least rent this game because it really is the first true Wii game, you probably won't be dissapointed. One annoying thing to add: the tutorial is a little longer than it should be but it does at least explain the controls well enough. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
well March isn't too far off. I personally think this game is way beter than the first Sonic Adventure game on DC. Sonic adventure = too much wanna be Mario platforming and not enough Sonic. This one is at least all Sonic stuff.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
the controls are fine, they take literally one run through a course to get used to them. I can't really call that a steep learning curve. I am glad the game is hard, I bet all the weeping pussies that whine about the difficulty could never dream of beating contra 3 on hard mode without cheating, or Axelay, or raystorm.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I am not a sega fanboy at all and I like this game. It is simple but challenging as hell. It has great graphics and it is very fun. Don't overlook this one as just another 3d sonic game cause it is far different than any previous 3d sonic attepmts and is closer to its roots than the other 3d Sonics. I recommend getting this game if you have a Wii, even if the music blows asschunks.
BUTTROCK SUPREME ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
well as of about 5 minutes ago I have officially finished all of the challenges in the game. I have not scored gold or even silvers on all of them but I have pretty much at least a bronze on all except maybe the last levels perfect challenge. And I do have a lot of gold and silver medals toward the first few boards. Anyone else finish all the challenges yet in this game?
my most memorable one was the perfect challenge on the pirate level where you can't get hit by anything and they are throwing cannon fire and spike balls at you the whole time. My wii-mote almost went through the window on this one. The final levels perfect challenge almost sent my wii-mote flying too but I was able to hold back. So I sucked it up and just finished the damn thing really carefully and slowly w/o a medal. FELIPE NO |
yea, some of the freaking challenges, like the later perfect challenges are too damn frustrating to try and get golds on. But I have had a lot of fun with this game even with the frustration. At least it isn't a pushover game like most 3d games nowadays.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
lol ancient arabic symbol...
Can't really blame you for pressing the start button really quickly to get past the menu music......blech its awful. Somehow the singer is the same guy that sings for Yoko Kanno on most of her soundtracks (cowboy bebop, ghost in the shell, wolf's Rain) I have listened over and over and I still can't believe it is him. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
