This was easily the best episode so far this season. It was a great twist having the flashback aspect of the show actually occur on the island. I wouldn't mind an episode dedicated to the history/flashback of the island itself one day.
Spoiler:
One gripe I had was the whole scene with Locke getting angry over what Henry said. Not only is it cliche, but it makes no sense for Locke to become jealous over Jack. Locke has always done what he wanted to do, so why would he care now? Sadly, there is not only a two week hiatus, but it seems the next episode will be more filler. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Legato, I agree that his frustration stemmed more from other things i.e. his relationship with his father, but I just felt that it was pretty sudden with no real build up to it. Yeah, Jack and Locke argued earlier in the episode, but they've done that dozens of times.
I guess what I was really waiting for was Locke to say his famous line "don't tell me what I can't do" to Henry. It would have made the scene great.
Spoiler:
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I don't think explaining the relevance of the heiroglyphics will be a problem for the writers.
Explaining the origin of an intelligent mass of smoke that runs around reading people's minds, destroying trees in its path, and sometimes killing people, on the other hand, will be the most difficult task. And if that is not answered in a satisfying manner to the audience, I wouldn't be surprised that a large amount of fans will give up on the show. Because, at least for me, the monster was one of the most intriguing aspects of the show when I first watched it. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I've always thought that
Spoiler:
would be the first one who gets sick. And the show has yet to be sloppy, for everything that has occured has progressed in a logical manner. Questions that still need to be answered would obviously reveal much more of what is happening on the island than they want to reveal. This isn't a cheap cop-out explanation, it just seems to be the best answer. Character development, actions, and rivalries are probably written as they go, but important plot elements, I believe, have been thought of well ahead of time. Lost has not even come close to the awkwardness of Alias nor has it "jumped the shark." It is all just unwarranted fears. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The biggest problem I see with the one to two week gaps is that people either stop caring, or they simply forget about new episodes. This is unfortunate for those in the latter, because either you simply miss an episode, download an episode off of iTunes, or just forget about it until the season 2 DVD set comes out. Unlike Smallville, you really can't miss an episode of Lost, because even the filler episodes have importance to character development and foreshadows things to come.
And don't expect to catch a re-run of the second season during one of these gaps anymore. Oh no. They want you to download it onto your iPod before they do that. I was speaking idiomatically. |
If this show wants to remain interesting, most of the questions that we have about the purpose/history of the island and the Hanso foundation should be revealed by the end of the third season. Because, seriously, nobody is going to continue watching for that much longer without knowing what exactly the island is. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
How do we know that "smokey" was the one that killed the pilot?
I've been thinking about that for awhile, and the fact of the matter is that we don't know what killed him. We are only assuming that the smoke monster killed the pilot because there were similar sounds occuring up to that point. But perhaps there are more than one "monster" at work? Until we see the smoke monster attack/kill someone, I will continue to believe that there are two monsters, and the one that we have seen thus far is simply a type of "probe" of some sort. FELIPE NO |
The theory about two groups of Others really wasn't that farfetched at the time. Especially with the evidence that was given to the viewer.
It is the simple fact that the monster has yet to live up to its "security system" description that allows me to consider that there are two monsters. Until we either know more about the true intentions/purpose of the smoke monster or see it in action, I'd like to think that the idea of two monsters existing is not so unbelievable. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Charlie really was great in yesterday's episode.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I wonder if the "cerberus activity" and "cerberus system" is the same as the monster/security system.
It's probably just the name of the monster, but still an interesting description of it if they are the same. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
You are not alone. Apparently, we are in the minority though.
There have been just as many "Holy shit" moments in Season 2 as there were in Season 1. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The Libby revelation is not as bad as the "revelation" that Locke was the one who hit Sayid over the head in the beginning of the first season.
It took them over 10 episodes to reveal that plot point, and everyone knew it was Locke from the beginning. So, yeah. Her being a crazy bitch wasn't surprising, but not the first time that the show has been predictable. Also, the Others were more awesome when they were killing people. That really needs to come back. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I can't remember correctly, but in Eko's dream at the start of the episode wasn't the hatch shaking as if something was about to blow up? Could it be a possible foreshadow of the button not being pressed and the hatch exploding?
I don't know, but I still refuse to believe that we wasted an entire season on a worthless hatch. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Remember when the monster use to show up every now and then just to scare everyone, and then it would disappear and repeat the same craziness a few more episodes later?
Yeah, I miss those days. If the monster does not make an appearance or is not mentioned in the season finale then I will be extremely disappointed despite the positive buzz that it has been getting. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'm pretty sure that the characters becoming darker is intentional. Everything went crazy ever since Michael started using the computer.
I really am looking forward to the monster killing someone eventually. I mean, it's been leading up to this point, and it would once again leave everyone wondering why the hell it leaves some people alive but kills others. Also, the idea that the monster can shape shift or something is not a farfetched one. Considering that the first time we "saw" the monster was in the same episode that it was labeled a security system (the season 1 finale), I still feel that it can do more than what we have seen thus far. You don't call an intelligent black smoke that goes around reading people's minds a "security system" unless it actually does something to earn that name. Unless, of course, it is just bad writing. I still hold the opinion that season 2 has been slightly better than season 1, because if you take out the pilot episodes, season 2 nearly mirrors season 1 in quality. FELIPE NO |
Unless it shows up for about 30 seconds just to kill off half the cast, I really don't see how they can fit the monster in the finale.
They have much to cover based on the trailer and leaked spoilers. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I really don't know what to think of the finale.
I mean, the entire episode had a great feel to it. I enjoyed the little things like characters finally connecting the dots and asking the right questions. Then they throw awesome things into the mix such as the foot statue and Henry being in charge of the Others. The end of the hatch was really well done, and if Eko and Locke have died, I'll be upset, but I guess they really did go out in the most dramatic fashion. But did we need an entire season to get to this point? As other people have said, many of these revelations we guessed long ago. That's fine. But do we have to wait an entire season to find out that the hatch was the cause of the plane crash? Also, no monster. Not even a fucking reference by Kelvin and it actually came from Charlie, who brought nothing new to it. What the hell? Also, I have enjoyed the Others, but if they are the main focus point next season, I really don't know about that. I have just about had my fill with them. I guess what bothers me is the ending of the finale. It didn't even feel like I was watching the same show for some reason. Poor ending, and it really gives me a "who gives a shit" kind of attitude for next season, which surprised me until I reflected on the rest of the episode. Overall, I guess I really did enjoy the finale. But as I look back to season 1 through 2, I really wonder how we got from the first episode to this. It SEEMS as if they know where they are going, but everything is so chaotic now that I simply do not know where the direction of the show can go. Will they be able to tie in all the loose ends without the answers coming off as forced by the end of the show? I hope so. Double Post: I guess what bothers me the most is that the monster might turn out to be fake or some shit. If that is the case, then fuck this show. Most amazing jew boots

It seems that the monster has now become an inconvenience/distraction for the writers instead of the main draw to the show.
They definitely pushed it to the back burner so that they can give more time to the Others. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed the tube thing. When I saw it yesterday I immediately remembered that Simpsons episode.
I mean, is it so hard for them to have it rustle the trees and howl every now and then just remind us that it is out there? It doesn't need to be physically present. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Has anyone been following The Lost Experience? I initially lost interest in it after the season ended, but I started to catch up on what occurred about a month ago.
There are definitely some interesting clues/answers/questions that have been created through this thing (I personally love the references/possible explanation of the Black Rock). Sadly, I gave up on it once again around the time when... Spoiler:
I just can't stand the actress they have doing the character. I might bite the bullet and just watch all of the blog videos before they are deleted. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
This is the site that I've been using. It's pretty reliable, and they give you all the steps so you can unlock videos, pictures, etc.
Yeah, I remember hearing that the Dharma symbol on the shark was a production error or something around those lines. My question is this: how the fuck does a mistake like that happen? Didn't ANYONE watch the final cut of the episode before it aired? They might as well have kept it in, because everybody fucking knows about it now and will be questioning where it went if it is not on the DVD. It's little mistakes that really bother me. I mean, if they really want us to analyze this show to death and take the phrase "Everything happens for a reason," you better fucking make sure that there are ZERO production/prop mistakes. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yeah, maybe I should explain myself further.
I don't really care about the common things that occur during editing/filming. Things such as scars not being in exact spots, scenes being re-used, or a horse trainer's hand accidentally appearing doesn't really bother me. I find them to be hilarious. What bothers me are mistakes that, although small, affect the plot. One example of this is that there was supposed to be a Widmore sign in the background of one of Charlie's flashbacks. However, it came out illegible, even though it was supposed to be. It's not like it was a last minute addition. They hinted at it in the official podcast before the episode aired! Yet, barely anyone could make out what it said and if people were not forewarned about it, that little clue would have been overlooked. Other mistakes such as the inconsistency of the photograph taken of Hurley in his flashback and incorrect information on Jin's resume are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Don't get me wrong. I don't care as much as I'm letting on. It just annoys me to no fucking end how I have to explain to my family/friends how something that they found is just a prop mistake. Of course, they don't believe me. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I like how only three nerds knew what was going on, and that the rest of the audience was completely baffled.
That actress is so over the top. I can't tell if it's her lack of acting ability or that the character is supposed to be like that. FELIPE NO |
I'm very pleased with how they are handling the schedule. I would much rather have the gap than wait until next year for the third season to begin.

Some new ABC show, I think. Once that show's season is over, Lost will immediately start up. Sometime in February if I remember correctly.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
