I waltzed in at just before 4pm and was #24 in line at my local Gamestop. It's nice living in Hawaii sometimes

Mo0 had better post!
Anywa, my Wii story: I walked in to my Gamestop at 3pm on the day the pre-orders opened. I was the 24th person to reserve a Wii there. They said I was guarranteed to have one, so I'm not terribly worried. Hawaii doesn't have that many people (only about 800,000 on the main island) and I'm not near the population center. Still though, doesn't 24 seem a bit high for the # of Wiis allotted per store? I may go back there and ask them again if I'm confirmed to get one on launch day. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Awesome, it looks like I got the last Wii at my local GameStop. I'm #24 and they have 24 Wiis.
Woot. I should go there tomorrow and preorder some more games. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I arrived at Gamestop at 11:55pm. They were letting people with pre-orders in one at a time to finish payment and get everything squared away so when 12:00 hit, they could just hand out systems. Thanks to them being bitches about the name on the credit card (it has my mom's name, but I handle payments on it), despite them accepting the EXACT SAME card two days earlier to pay the balance on the Wii pre-order (I needed to pay for Zelda and Contact), 12:00 hit while I was in the store. So they gave me my Wii! I was one of the first people in HI to get one, probably. I lol'd at the guy who came in after me. I did the head nod "sup" motion, and he just kind of stared at me.
When I got home, I tried setting one of the VCRs I have lying around (the "new" TV only has coax in for some reason). It refused to work without a connection to cable. That VCR is maybe 8 years old, and it's pretty much broken. It eats tapes and is has one of the worst interfaces ever: "we'll not label any of the buttons on the front that we have overloaded with four names. Everyone knows that the > button is also the up button. lawl". So I get out the 20 year old JVC VCR which was plugged in to the old TV. Man this thing rocks. First off, it just works. Doesn't complain about not having a connection to CATV. Secondly, it has a great interface. Buttons on the front have one use and meaning. All of the menus contain instructions telling you exactly how to work it (programming the thing to record shows is a snap). Also, it plays tapes great. I watched a couple minutes of Good Burger for lol, and then plugged the Wii in to the back. Only problem with that VCR is no Stereo sound :\ Although can you really tell Stereo from Mono on TV speakers? Playing the Wii is pretty easy. It took a while to realize (because I'd been up for nearly 24 hours, 8 of those being work) that it's not a light gun. It senses relative motion, I believe. The sensor bar is easy to install (just stick it on the top of the TV), and there isn't a long, involved config process for it. I've only played Zelda so far, which is quite awesome. Vladimir Cole can go fuck himself -- the game isn't all brown. The number of polys drawn on the screen is a bit improved, not hugely though. The biggest improvement, IMO, is the lighting. There seem to be MANY more lighting and shading modes than the GPU for the GCN. I suspect that while the core is just a miniaturized Gamecube, the GPU has gotten a few extra features -- not a bad plan, especially since creating a GPU is orders of magnitude cheaper and easier than creating a new CPU -- HDLs for the win. I can't wait to get back home (I'm at work) and play some more. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
The battery died quickly for me as well. it was less than a week. Although to be fair, there was QUITE a lot of gaming. I'm sure rumble and the speaker don't help though.
A rechargeable pack for it would definitely be awesome. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
When there's a new message or new mii or some new content, the light will blow glue. It's a little bit annoying since it's right next to my bed. I wish there was a way to turn it off.

I can check out what the Wiimote does or doesn't do as a BT device -- I have BT on my Mac. Will edit this post once I find out.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
