To do that you will need an NTSC compatible TV and a modified PS2 (either chipped or some slide-card solution).

When that guy way back said that the story was "so good that the previous FFs should be ashamed of themselves", he wasn't kidding.
I couldn't agree less. Both the story and the characterization are really quite week, but most of all - completely unengaging. Just like in previous PS2 Final Fantasies I find myself not really caring one bit about the characters or the story. And the so-called negative aspects of the SNES and PSX installments that you mentioned is exactly what I'm missing with this game.

They are much of what made the storylines engaging and magical back in the day.

Not really. The only thing you might have some problems with deciding is what type(s) of armor you want to use. There are few permanent decisions to be made so that's not really a problem.

Where does each character start on the License Board? Since the board is very organized with similar abilities and what not grouped together, it seems moving along will result in a character who only specializes in one strict area. Or do I have the concept of moving around the License Board completely wrong?
The begin in pretty much the same spot [afaikr] (one for each part of the board). And since you can always get more license points I don't think you'll find youself with "characters who only specializes in one strict area". If you want a certain ability - all you gotta do is kill some enemies.

Quote:
Do characters have their own quickenings, unlocked via a quickening box on the License Board? Or are their specific quickenings on the License Board which can be distributed to any character?
Spoiler:
There are specific quickening boxes on the board and when someone "learns" one of these boxes, it dissapears from all other characters' borads. Quickenings are character specific (if you look at the same box on different boards the quickening in question will have different names) and there are three for each character

Quote:
For me, it seems the game is too customizable. I'd hate to get 20 hours into the game only to find I made the wrong decision giving an esper to the wrong character or granting one-time abilities to the wrong character.
The best thing I think is to choose three characters you want and then use them all through the game. Since there is little differance between the characters now that everyone can equip everything.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The only loot items (that you are able to sell) I've found any use for are the Teleportation stones and Gysahl greens. Items that are of actual use to you tends to go under Key Items.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Giving us the name of the item would help, you know

But knowing only the price, I'd say it's a key item that enables you to steal superior loot from a certain type of enemy. There are several of these to be bought from the Bazaar.

Why are you using a guide during your first time playing the game? I would have thought that would sort of ruin the experience for you.

First of all, you have to exit the Uplands completely (and then enter again) for the weather to be able to change. It can take quite a few tries, but eventually it will change.

As kupomog said, the weather at Giza changes at certain set time intervalls (as opposed to other areas in the game where the weather can change every time you exit->enter). So just leave it for like an hour or so and then return. And I don't know if you've noticed, but if you look at the sky over Giza from the south exit of Rabanastre you can actually see what weather it is there currently.

Oh, and something else..... does anyone know how to cure "slow"? Esuna doesn't help and as for items, well, I guess there are remedies, but isn't there something like Echo Herbs for Silence or Handkerchiefs for Oil?
As some people have already pointed out, the best cure for Slow is actually Haste

Chronos Tears cure Stop and not Slow. And you'll be able to buy Gambits like the ones you specified from Gambit stores eventually. Though, as JazzFlight said, if all you want to do is say, have Blindna cast on allies that have been blinded, you can just as well use the Ally: Any Gambit.

I would certainly suggest against using two-handed weapons if you're not able to beat this boss. Any increase in damage you might get from using them isn't really worth it considering the drop in Evade (and the fact that Ice Shields come in particularly handy when fighting this guy).

Apart from Teleport Stones and Gyhsal Greens, there are a few items later on in the game that you'll want to refrain from selling. But it'll become pretty obvious. Just as with Weapons and Equipment, if a loot item sells for either 0 or 1 Gil you'll know that you'll want to keep it.

After you've done about half of the hunts you should notice an increase in difficulty. Both the marks themselves and (and perhaps even more so) actually finding them.

There is also this "auto-leveling" scheme you can do. Which can come in really handy if you think regular leveling is boring.

By the way, I just remembered you could do something simillar at the early stages of FFVI. Anyone remember that part where you were floating around on a raft on a maze-like river and you had that guy called Banon (or something like that) in your team? I left the SNES running overnight and when I woke up my team had gone from something like lv. 15 to 65. Pretty much killed off any challenge for the remainder of the game it did =D

Yeah, this is pretty much a Final Fantasy Online (Offline Version). For me, the Hunt sidequest always felt more interesting and much more rewarding than the main storyline. As you say, it's ridiculously underdeveloped.

This game may be a step up from the likes of FFX, but damn, Square should be able to be better than this.

And a lot of people with you, it would seem. Unnecessary, I'd say, as the Zodiac Spear isn't necessarilly the best weapon in the game just because it happens to have the highest attack stat. There are too many factors to consider for it to be that simple - and personally I don't think it belongs even among the top 3 weapons in the game (partly because you can get two "copies" of perhaps the best one in the game though).

I can agree that the circumstances which decide whether or not you'll be able to aquire the Zodiac Spear are pretty silly, though. You'd have to be real lucky in order to get it without knowing how to beforehand.

And this isn't the only peice of equipment that can be 'lost forever'. More important things than this too.

Quote:
Also, is it just me or is the game almost -too- open ended? I find myself often lost amid all of the choices of the liscense board, and my original idea of having defined-roles for every character has pretty much been obliterated. There are way too many weapon types and whatnot for me to really choose for 'set weapons' for all of the characters.
I actually feel the opposite way as far as the Licence Board is concerned. I think it could have been bigger and more diverse than it is. A bigger selection of different types of Augment slots would have been nice.

And I think you'll soon notice that many weapon types aren't all that good and that a select few really stand out from the rest. Measures, anyone?
