The sad truth is that if you plan to wait out for the price to drop, it won't be for a long while, and certainly not before MGS4.

I honestly don't know anymore. Maybe if Nintendo prices Wii REALLY aggressively (like $150 or something) and Sony gets A LOT of backlash, they might cut it a bit. Who knows though. I thought PSP's price would have been sliced by now, but all we got so far is just a package with less stuff in it. Tough call.

Really, I’m not an expert on this, I don’t work in any of those fields, I’m only noticing what’s happening from the customer point of view (both on the gaming and HT side), and my best guess is that not only Sony will sell PS3s like crazy at $600, but also it's likely that they will probably have a shortage of supply like the Microsoft do...

Maybe someone working in the video-gaming field could analyse the "evolving gaming market" a little further (Cetra?).
Companies are suppose to have all sorts of "informed" people that conduct "research" to make sure wrong products/marketing/prices/etc. don't make it out the door. However, for some reason, even with these guru-advisors, companies still fuck up. That's why things like this happen:

I'm not suggesting that the PS3's the next nGage. My point is that enough people within Nokia, despite all the research and seasoned professionals, thought that the nGage (along with the stupid "side talking") was a good idea. Good companies make stupid and bad decisions all the time.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

As were Sega and Nintendo at some point in the past. Just because you're on top, it doesn't mean that you can't slip off and fall if you mess up.

Yeah, way to call out on your own mistake. Nokia may have never been on top, but Sega and Nintendo definately were at the very top at some point, and now, well, Sega's just...sad. And Nintendo's in close competition trying to regain it's spot. How did you not catch this when I used it as an example?:eyebrow:

Wow. If you're gonna create posts that exude dry, cynical sarcasm, have the decency to make sure they're not idiotic. I tried to point out to you that my post that "missed the point" was comparing Sony to Nintendo and Sega, and yet you still come to me with this "ZOMG! SONY IS NOT NOKIAAAA !!!111!!" wtf?

Forget Nokia for a second. Nintendo and Sega (actual videogame companies) were at some point in the past, at the very top of this industry. Today however, they're far from being the domineers of the business. Suggesting that just because Sony is at the very top now, it doesn't mean that they can't fall off to the bottom of the chain if they make enough stupid decisions like pricing a videogaming console $600.

I hope you stopped getting your nipples tied in a knot and understood what I meant now that I broke it down for you to the lowest denominator.

I love it when dense people act arrogant. =/

But all you have to do is look at it logically. I say the reason online polls have a high percentage of gamers in the 25-35 range, is because I'd say that kids 15-20 don't vote in polls very often. Kids in their teens just want to game, they aren't into interacting online as much, but become moreso when they get older.

Plus it's no secret that the older you get the less and less time you have to game. I don't need polls and the like. I'm just looking at it with common sense.
Not to mention that polls are garbage. They're junk numbers that can easily be manipulated to "prove" your point no matter how far off you are from the facts.

So right from the get go, you're already spending extra money for protection and acknowledging the fact that at some point you're gonna have to bring it in/exchange it/wait for a new one/etc.

You wouldn't have to go through all of that in the first place if the console does what it's suppose to: Work properly for a good couple of years or so.

I still think you're better off if you wait a year or so. You bypass this entire issue, get a more stable unit for a cheaper price, & have a larger library (of also cheaper games) to select from. (Hell, by then, we might even know who comes out on top with this HD-DVD vs. Blue-ray war)

I still have plenty of PS2 games that I haven't started yet. Then there's Wii at launch. I could easily hold out for a year.

Something is unclear to me about the HDD. Is it detachable? It'd be really convenient for playing your saved games at a friend's place if the HDD can easily snap in and out of it's place.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I wonder what'll happen to PS3's price if HD-DVD comes out on top and blue-ray goes down the path of Sony's mini-disks and UMD movies...

Jam it back in, in the dark.

They were the first two examples that came to mind. Heck you can compare them to Beta tapes if it'd make you feel better. (That wasn't Sony's was it?). Anyway, it doesn't matter. The point is, it'd be interesting to see what happens to the PS3 and how Sony would market it, if Blue-ray ends up not being the standard.

I doubt this is an acurate survey of what was most impressive at E3. I understand not seeing much Microsoft love on there considering that Xbox is still 3rd in terms of popularity over there. However, it'd most probebly be a lot more evenly split between Sony and Nintendo had it been a thorough survey.

How ya doing, buddy?

See, that's what gets me. What if I'm not interested in the damn blu-ray player? I'm not making the jump to HD anytime soon. I want a PS3 for the FFXIII's and MGS4's. I guess it's a decent deal for someone interested in both components. For the likes of me however, it's a rip-off. As I've said before, I think the PS3 will be one of those cosoles that'll be absolutely amazing when you purchase it later in it's life-span as opposed to on launch date.

Honestly so long as whatever they set up allows you to actually play your games online versus other actual human players, I'll be fine. All that extra online community, e-shop, score rankings, video/voice chat, myspace-esque stuff seems like extra fluff. They're certainly nice to have but not really needed.

Anyway, seems like the backlash just keeps on rolling...

and rolling...

and...rolling?

...?

How the hell will analog A/V or Component cables be able to display a full, HD, 1080p picture? I'll only believe this, when I see it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

This HDMI issue is blow way out of perspective by people that don't even understand what HDMI is. HDMI does not offer higher resolutions compared to analog connections and the picture quality difference between component and HDMI is minimal to non-existent unless you are using a TV with really shit Digital-Analog converter circuitry.
Are you saying that, sans the ACSS/HDCP issue, both Component and HDMI cables will be able to truly display an identical 1080p picture? Because working at BestBuy, I've seen plenty of side by side comparisons on both high-end LCD and plasma TVs where that wasn't the case.

P.S.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here or challanging your statements. I'm genuinly asking because I've never seen an "HD" picture running through Component that truly looked as good as one off of HDMI.

Sigh... look. I know the PS3 is freaking HUGE but just look carefully. Load the page again, and for a split second, the apple logo appears then quickly vanishes. It's smack in the middle of the PS3 logo and the controler. You try it too infernal, you'll see it.

AWSOME!

Seriously, line heckling is idiotic. How are you any better than the "no life losers in line" when you resort to messing with them for amusement? You have nothing else happening? That bored?

Anyway, with all the lines formed for the pre-orders, I wonder what the lines for the actual launch are gonna be like. Hectic times are definately coming up.
