They could have still kept the records if they had some sort of fix against it.

1. Disable Home during battle so they can't leave.
2. Implement a "Chicken Shit" feature, which is a record of every time a player doesn't finish a battle, like turning off the system.

Other than that, FANTASTIC update!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I wonder if the blanked out box involves any sort of recorded modes, such as sending a fight sequence.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'll talk to my manager at the store: didn't know we could that legally with a game that came out.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

JP Super Smash Brothers: January 21, 1999
JP SSBM: November 21, 2001

That's 2 years and 10 months between those, and there's not much evidence supporting that Melee went into development shortly after SSB, let alone before, given the success of the game was larger than they expected.

First SSBB Trailer: May 10, 2006

There has to be a level of development before a trailer, which there was an early quote to give an estimate:

Quote:
At the pre-E3 2005 press conference, the president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, announced the next installment of Super Smash Bros. was not only already in development for their next gaming console...
Quote:
Development of the game never actually started until October 2005, when Nintendo opened a new office in Tokyo just for its production.
It would be safe to assume that development, at least at the concept level, could have began as early as May, 2005, with development when stated. As far as development time, Brawl is facing a smaller dev time, but they had access to the entire original engine and is rumored that based off of the solidity of the original, that they didn't have to focus development on as much on the core engine as much as they could on content and fine-tuning.

Quote:
During a test play between Sakurai and Hideo Kojima, Kojima stated that the game feels complete and that Nintendo "could put it out right now and it would sell millions of copies."

Given many of these comments, the extended development definitely seems to be showing dedication to a polished title, a challenge, and more content than before. We're at quite a few known characters and levels, and that's a great start!

Angry with today's update, it's basically something that people have been doing with five or more people surrounding a Gamecube since... Ya know, like every game... Anyway, it's a rotation system. You note how many people are playing, how many spectators there are, log them in with profile names, then set the rules for the rotation.

Nothing that common sense can't do. Four people, one person sits out, first one dead passes the controller.
Is it that big of a deal? He's not going to spoil everything about the game ahead of time, but it's nice to know they've put thought into utilizing features like this nonetheless. Yes, the website is marketing, but far be it a requirement for him to have to tell you everything in advance. Just stop reading the damn website and you won't be let down so much.

Concur with Acer, because this post shows an exploration of features, however trivial some may think it is!

I was speaking idiomatically.

I dunno, I'm pretty stoked about the sound test.

Edit: I really like this update, because it's making me question some more things about the game. Vault Data, in particular. I know trophies and stickers are here, but maybe there could be more... screen shots? Videos? (Oh I can only hope!) At the least, the game's storing more data outside of records and game accomplishments. Also had a couple songs on the list we haven't seen yet

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Actually, I'm really feeling that, and it feels like something that you'd expect to see in the game, too. It's the subtle things Nintendo does that can make their games golden.

Two good updates, IMO, and the second one leaves a lot for interpretation when it refers to stages: I get the feeling you don't simply trade stages, but perhaps a game recording?? Prtyplz!

I wonder if they could pull off a Mario Galaxy level in this... it needed special physics to define points of gravity, no idea how hard of a modification it would be for a single level...

I can hope ;_;

The space picture leaves open some Mario Galaxy influenced levels, I feel, even though space is recurring in different games. Maybe it's just Mario's pose in it...

How ya doing, buddy?

Eh, I guess anytime I see Mario in that funny sideways pose I think of all the publicity pictures. Nice link Acer: this is a game that I don't feel spoiled finding out this stuff ahead of time, not being plot-driven. However...

Spoiler:
Megaman was on the list, and so far there's been at least one public statement saying he isn't there.

Still, the statement could have intentionally been misleading!
