del is the commandline delete on Windows.
You could try one of those experimental packers with a insane amount of dictionary bytes. 7zip also gives you the possiblity to increase dictionary size. Keep in mind that memory consumption while packing AND unpacking increases. It's fairly easy for 7zip to consume more than 1 gig of memory while packing. If that won't work why don't you try overburning the media? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I only mentioned memory consumption because of this:
- compressing with PAQ or 7zip already takes at lot more time than the usual compression formats - If you don't have enough memory installed on your system (say you have 1Gig installed) and set the dictionary size to an amount that uses 1,5Gig you won't have much fun because compression takes at LOT longer then (meaning >20 times the normal time) I once tried it this way with a normal size file (around 100MB) and it wouldn't finish in about a week. The main reason is the speed of swap space which lies on your harddrive. And that one is a lot slower than random access memory. Just make sure you use a sane dictionary size, otherwise... There's nowhere I can't reach. |
