The problem: WMP is not really a good piece of software.
How to save the file: There are a lot of streamrippers out there, e.g. 'SDP Downloader' Jam it back in, in the dark. |

Why don't you google for 'capture wmv stream' and find a (free) program that is working for you? Later you can report back here evaluating about the quality of the tool you used.
