It is a lengthy process. I think the industry standard for vectoring is Adobe Illustrator CS3, which you are probably using right now.
That picture kind of looks like clipart. It is going to be more painless if you can find it in a vector version to begin with (which some clipart are already in) Jam it back in, in the dark. |

I had a little fun with the pig. About 40 minutes of a hack job - most of it was spent in Photoshop removing the colors and tracing just the black outlines. It was pretty automated in Illustrator.

Regarding the help in coloring and shadows, you're probably better off asking in Creator's Cafe. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
