Update DirectX and audio drivers, and try again.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

"Legacy sound card" is not the correct name of your soundcard. You need to install the proper drivers. If it's an onboard soundcard, you need to provide the name of your motherboard. Ditto if it's a laptop.

How ya doing, buddy?

Maybe you're thinking of this?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Which driver installation failed? Realtek AC97 or SiS 7012?

Here are some steps you can take. Any time you encounter problems, don't proceed down the levels. At each stage where you are supposed to take corrective measures, retest for error message.

Level 1 Diagnostic: Drivers
  1. Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc
  2. Any devices with exclamation marks? If so, post screenshot.
  3. Expand Sound, video and game controllers. Post screenshot.
Level 2 Diagnostic: DirectX
  1. Start -> Run -> DXDIAG
  2. DirectX Files Tab -- Any problems found? If so, post screenshot.
  3. Sound Tab -- Test DirectSound. Any problems found? If so, yank down Hardware Sound Acceleration Level to "No Acceleration", and post screenshot.
  4. Music Tab -- Test DirectMusic. Any problems found? If so, post screenshot.
Level 3: Winamp
  1. Uninstall Winamp.
  2. Download and install newest version of Winamp.
Level 4: Remove Drivers
  1. In Device Manager, remove all of your Sound, video and game controllers and reboot.
Good luck!

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
