Huh. Didn't know that either. So basically you can say anything you want there, and it generally won't come back to haunt you eh?
So anyway, in an attempt to un-derail said thread and divert attention from my ignorance of how active image boards work, I'll just come out and say that I felt Tales of Phantasia was overrated.
There was a lot of interest over it when it was first dumped in its entirety in the turn of the millennium (I can't recall the year now, but it has to be between 1999-2001, when the ZSNES message boards was my forum home.) This interest intensified when DeJap released a patch, and later a full translation in 2001.
The game doesn't have incredible graphics (SD3's background look sweeter than ToP), and I don't really find the tunes special (though I did dig the Aviators flying theme). The battle system is unusual for an RPG system, and was rather innovative for its day, although as far as action-adventure games go, I prefer the SoM control scheme.
Looking back, perhaps I might have misinterpreted the popularity of the game. It is entirely possible ToP was talk of the town only because of the novelty factor. ToP was by far the biggest ROM to have finally been dumped at that time. It was also the only SNES game (to my knowledge) to have an opening song with full vocals, something that's trivial after the cartridge days.
If anything, the interest in Star Ocean after the graphics pack was decompressed in 2001 certainly was a close parallel to ToP's popularity. (I never did pick up Star Ocean though; without a manual, I found the battle system a bit tricky to pin down, and there was no full translation or full SDD-1 support for a long while.)
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
