Just like every year in gaming guys, I haven't had a chance to play a lot of titles that were released in 2014. All my picks for games are either digital games or games for the 3DS.
1.) Final Fantasy Theatrhythm: Curtain Call - 40 points
Time Put Into The Game: 125 hours
Total Rhythmia Collected: 325000
Those two numbers in itself really show how much I love this game and how this series has been one of the most enjoyable video games series I've played in a really long time. This is what the original game should of been. They have literally fleshed out this game as much as possible and its amazing the amount of extra content that this game has. This game can keep you playing for hours and you may not even realize it. I love the fact that they are still releasing songs for this game and square enix is actually digging into other classics games and releasing excellent songs from a variety of well loved square enix games. I find a reason to always go back to this game, and it never feels boring or tiresome. I always want to find ways to improve my score on a lot of ultimate tracks because I do intend on trying to get every trophy in this game.
2.) Shovel Knight - 35 points
If its one thing I learned throughout this year in gaming is bigger budgets doesn't necessarily mean better games. The key to making a game good is to make the game play enjoyable. A good story and beautiful graphics can't really save a game unless it has the gameplay to back it up. This game is a true testament to excellent platformers of the nes/snes era of gaming. Never have I played a game in such a long time in which the controls for the platforming were so sharp and accurate. I hope more companies can look at this game and realize that a lot of gamers want games like this. We don't want games that are always looking to re-invent the wheel just give us the same solid stuff we've grown to love and appreciate. You keep doing that and there will always be an audience for it. It may not be the biggest audience but it'll be a solid audience nonetheless. Its an excellent game with excellent music and its a game that should be appealing to kids and adults of all ages.
3.) Yoshi's New Island - 25 pts
This was first time I played any of the yoshi's island games. I actually found this one really enjoyable. Its a solid platformer that offers a few new mechanics but its still backed by the same addictive game-play that has made the yoshi's island series enjoyable. The special levels in each of the games world are hard as hell and i absolutely love it. I had a hard time putting this game down, the game in itself is pretty bare bones with no extra content but its still an enjoyable platformer nonetheless.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
