I use LaunchELF for this purpose. It works like a file manager and can copy files from the Memory Cards to HDD, USB flash drives or via FTP to a computer and vice versa.
There's also commercial software out there (XPort/SharkPort) that supports support backing up Memory Card saves via USB cable. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

The cable usually ships with the software and even if they are standard ones I doubt you'll be able to use them without the appropriate software.
