Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Just started playing the game a few days ago. I'm just about to enter Raithwall's tomb with most of my characters at level 24+ (25 hours into the game).
Never did a Final Fantasy game before make me explore all the areas and dungeons so thoroughly. And it's tons of fun, because gameplay is stellar. Levelling never seems to get boring. I somehow fear that the story is going to suffer a bit, though. So far, nothing really interesting or groundbreaking happened, but then again, I'm only at the very beginning of the game - or am I? Anyhow, what I wanted to know was if there are things I should be doing before entering certain places. Are there important things you can miss on your way that will be lost forever? Also, can someone explain these quickenings to me, because I have no fucking clue how they work and I'm too lazy to read guides about this. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I guess it increases the effect of the Remedy item. Like, with every license upgrade, a single Remedy can cure more status effects.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I'm semi-seconding this question. I'd like to know if the official (Bradygames) guide is worth the money, because I was also planning on getting it, but heard a number of bad things about it (mainly being that the book is full of spoilers and you can't even use the tables without being spoiled).
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I also think having a main party is pointless. Especially because the game allows such quick changes even in mid-battle. Since all characters have their unique advantages and disadvantages, rotating them seems to be the best idea. Hell, I found myself switching members according to situations and enemies in some encounters.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I don't even think leveling is that boring in Final Fantasy XII. Compared to other titles in the series, doing optional stuff such as sidequests, hunts and exploring seems to be a very important aspect of the game and I'm enjoying it.
Having all characters on a more or less equal level just came natural to me. I don't have favorite characters and the game is so wonderfully balanced that I didn't have the heart to neglect some characters in favor of others. Regardless of what Licences you earn first, there will always be party members with advantages over certain enemies. Take weapons with element effects for example. I pretty much kept to everybody's "default" main weapon, so switching party members according to the type of enemy you're fighting actually makes a lot of sense for me. P.S.: I just ordered that Bradygames guide for 15 Euros. I hope it's worth it. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Regarding the Zodiac Spear, I just learned that your only chance to procure it is not opening certain treasure chests in the game. I've already completed the Giruvegan crystal and naturally opened all treasure chests I've encountered so far. Do I still have a chance to get the spear?
Damn, this is pissing me off. FELIPE NO |
At least I know where to get the Genji equipment. Are there any other things you can miss and that'll be gone forever?
How ya doing, buddy? |
I have the Bradygames guide here, although I've only been using it for information on some of the hunts. It has some neat treasure chest tables, though. I guess I'll be using them to get some nice stuff once I'm done with the main storyline.
I've done a lot of hunts and leveling throughout the game, so normal bosses aren't much of a challenge for my already Lv. 60+ party. I might pay the Henne Mines or the Deadlands a visit next. Oh and I still have to get the Barheim Passage key. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Just sweeping through the Deadlands and found the secret area with massive amounts of respawning enemies. However, they don't respawn forever - there'll be 50 Dead Bones and then it's all over. Is there a way to make them reappear without leaving the entire area or teleporting out and back in?
50 x 1500 EXP isn't nearly enough for me, even with tippets equipped. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Thanks seanne and Metal, that's really useful advice.
I'm having Reddas as a guest party member right now and the Dead Bones only give me ~1200 EXP. Didn't know that guest members reduce the amount of EXP gained. How ya doing, buddy? |
Most amazing jew boots |
Just another quick question: I like bows and guns for their accuracy, but I find it extremely hard to get a hold of decent munitions. Does anybody have any advice on where to buy/find better arrows and ammo? With the single exception of a vendor in Nalbina, there don't seem to be any shops carrying these items in the entire game.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
From my understanding, each enemy gives you a fixed amount of EXP which is distributed evenly among active party members.
For example, Dead Bones are worth ~4800 EXP. Do the maths: For a party of three, each member receives ~1600 EXP. The figure displayed is the number of EXP each party member receives (double the number for Emroidered Tippets, of course). Characters with the Firefly equipment and K.O.'ed characters are considered inactive, so the EXP is distributed among the remaining party members. Bottom line: The total amount of EXP gained for defeating an enemy always remains the same, regardless of the number of active party members or Firefly equipment. At least I think this is how EXP distribution in FFXII works. Haven't confirmed the Firefly thing, though. Oh and I'm also at the Pharos now; can I complete that dungeon and still be free to roam the world map? Besides, why do people use airships when they can just teleport? Seriously, why are those aerodromes even in the game? I never even used the airship once except for story stuff. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
For those of you who have already finished FFXII: Does the game offer some completion statistics like Okami and the like? I'd be very disappointed if I couldn't share some figures with you once I beat the final boss ...
FELIPE NO |
I'm sure I all my characters were at least Level 55+ when I did the great crystal. Missed Ultima and some other secrets, though.
Damn, attempting to do all the hunts/sidequests/secrets/whatever sure is getting tiresome. The bad thing is, I can't bring myself to just finish the game, even more so because the final boss won't even be the slightest challenge for my 75+ party. I feel it will be a rather unsatisfying experience. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I already did most of the hunts throughout the game, but I'm still missing a lot of the elite marks and didn't even join the hunt club. I'll probably just do the Gilgamesh battle (for the music) and be done with the game.
110+ hours is long enough, anyways. *g* Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Just beat Gilgamesh after an extraordinarily long and challenging battle. I stole the complete Genji set, but most of my regular equipment was already better at that point. I also completed the license board for everyone and decided to do at least the Henne Mine hunts before finally finishing the game.
I read you can still procure the Zodiac Spear from the mines even if you missed the chance to get it from the Necrohol of Nabudis. Unfortunately, the Bradygames guide doesn't have detailed maps and is missing treasure chest tables for the Henne Mines (which is pissing me off), so does anyone know where to find the chest with the Zodiac Spear? How ya doing, buddy? |
Note: Gamefaqs doesn't support hotlinking.
I found the map, after all. But here's a stupid question: Where's the damn entrance? I went in from the Feywood, but all the tunnels are blocked off. I guess there's some key that unlocks a gate or something when you enter from the Ozmone plains, but I don't know where to get that. I kinda expected it was linked to one or two hunts, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Also, what's a good average level for your party to start exploring the secret areas of the Henne mines? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
There is no such thing as a "best main party". It all depends on the way you equip and customize your characters as well as the need to adapt to different enemies and battle situations.
To me, the concept of a main party itself is questionable, since it neglects other characters and ultimately mounts to your disadvantage if you need to switch out party members in mid-battle. Whatever advice you may have been given is useless. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I'm 150 hours in and can't see myself finishing this game anytime soon. I'm not aiming for the 100% completion mark, but I'm going to try and finish all of the hunts and most of the sidequests for sure. I did most of the optional stuff while following the storyline, so I enjoyed every second of the game.
I think everyone should at least spend 100 hours with this game to thoroughly appreciate it. I was speaking idiomatically. |
How ya doing, buddy? |
I didn't even use Gambits other than attacking and healing throughout the entire game. I prefer having control over the flow of battle myself. FELIPE NO |
Black Magick does not suck if you equip your "mages" properly. Do not equip anything that lowers Magick Power. As opposed to most of the other stats, the slightest drop here will actually make a huge difference.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I'm currently exploring the upper layer of the Giruvegan Crystal. I didn't find any treasure chest tables, though. So where do I find the good stuff in there and do I have to equip that Diamond Armlet?
Also, are the Henne Mines the only place to get Ribbons? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
