So do I need a Diamond Armlet for these things (especially Excalibur)? What's the drop percentage? I'm already past map 2 and I'm pretty certain I only got one Gil out of that particular chest.

You'll end up filling out the entire License Board anyway, so early decisions won't get you into trouble later on.

As far as I know, it doesn't matter when or where you sell your loot. Any Bazaar will restock as soon as your total number of loot items sold hits the required mark, so keeping your loot is pointless.
