Bit of a nothing premiere, to be honest - I was hoping for dramatic revelations right from the get-go, but it's nice to know the name of another DHARMA station and to meet a few new characters. But yeah, flashbacks what. I'd have actually thought it'd been worthwhile if it HAD turned out that
Spoiler:
Jack's dad was having an affair with his ex-wife.

But, nooo, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT not.

Also, the opening just made me stare at my screen and mouth "what the FUCK". Why couldn't the rest have been of that calibur? Oh well.

How ya doing, buddy?

The Red Sox reference was the highlight of the episode - Mainly because Jack's dad says something along the lines of "...and that's why the Red Sox will never win the world series" in a season one episode.

WEEEEEIRD, though, what with Ben having lived on the island since
Spoiler:
his birth. What does that make him, then?

Here's an interesting theory as to Desmond surviving the destruction of the Swan despite seemingly being at the epicentre of everything...

Spoiler:
If you're not the type of obsessive fan prone to freezing frames, allow me to point out that Mr. Eko's Jesus Stick was sporting some new citations. For example:

Genesis 13:14 Part of this verse is actually etched on Eko's stick: ''Lift up your eyes and look [from the place where you are,] north...''
Application: If the castaways look to the northern part of the island, they will find the place where the Others are holding Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. But as for how the button-pushers survived the implosion, I think another footnote on Eko's Staff of Clues might provide insight:

John 3:5 ''Jesus answered, ''Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.'' In the full context of this passage, Christ is explaining that one must be spiritually transformed or ''born again'' in order to enter Heaven.
Application: For now, let's just assume that Locke and Eko somehow managed to scramble away from the Hatch and were thrown into the jungle by the concussive energy of the implosion, à la the flying door marked ''quarantine.'' So what happened to Desmond?

Simple.

He was born again.

The stated purpose of the Hatch, according to the (possibly bogus) Station Three Orientation Film, was to study the ''unique'' electromagnetic energy that fluctuated from the southern section of the island. But we also know that Dharma was conducting experiments in parapsychology, or ''mind over matter.'' Now, quantum physics says that all matter is made up of electromagnetic energy. And remember, Desmond seemed to believe in a form of reincarnation, as per his catchphrase, ''See you in another life, brother.'' I'm thinking that Desmond essentially willed himself into living again. Mind over matter.

In other words, Desmond literally saved himself. Which could explain Boone's cryptic reference to Desmond in Locke's dream when he said, ''He's helping himself.''

And, of course, it also explains Desmond showing up in his birthday suit.

From Entertainment Weekly's site. It's nice, but I really don't want the series to turn into straight-up no-holds-barred scifi.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, the huge break comes after episode six. Hey, we just went the summer without any updates; why can't we do another three months? Besides, I'm sure The Lost Experience will turn some new stuff up at the same time.

Ya. I totally agree - I don't like the fact that with the implosion of the Swan they pretty much dismissed half of the mysteries within. (Also, if the Swan facility was the cause of the magnetic distortion of the island shouldn't magnetic north be returning to normal now?)

Oh, and a few days back someone mentioned that the hole around the hatch looked a little on the way-too-small side - Keep in mind that it was probably just the site of the hatch itself and not the whole DHARMA facility.

Also, when Desmond came out of the hatch, he wouldn't be naked, he wouldn't be psychic, hell, he wouldn't even be alive.

Also, Ethan wouldn't have been able to drag a heavily pregnant woman and a fully grown man through the jungle with apparent ease.

Also, a paraplegic guy wouldn't be able to get up and walk after a plane crash.

Also, a cloud of black smoke couldn't possibly be sentient.

Please. Ignore all the "would haves" and just watch the goddamn show. It's not as if the trainwreck that is Heroes doesn't have any discrepancies itself.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I just came up with a theory pertaining to the "Hydra Island":

Spoiler:
There's only one island. When Ben shows Sawyer the "main island" he's full of shit - They're merely looking at the back of the island on which they're already standing, creating a kind of "closed universe" effect.

The points you pointed out are merely unbelieveable situations, not impossible. Hiding an entire island from over 40 people stranded on an island that they have walked the perimeter of countless times is IMPOSSIBLE, not improbable. Dont lay into someones post unless you have something that actually makes sense.
"God can't see this island..." - Ben Linus. Hiding an entire island from the rest of the world seems pretty impossible to me, so why couldn't the smaller island be hidden (or, alternatively, why can't my theory apply)?

And wait, so now plane crashes curing cripples and evil black smoke eating people aren't impossible situations? I'm lost. Explain.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Eyepatch man had me staring at the screen and going "HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK".

Also, it's pretty obvious now that
Spoiler:
the monster can take human form

and further, it's even more obvious that
Spoiler:
the "unrevealed appearance" of the monster in S2 was Hurley's "friend" Dave.

This episode paid the fuck off. Good to see you back, smokey. Only gripes I had were Nikki and Paulo (as always), and Nikki magically figuring out shit Locke is apparently incapable of. GARGHJSDJIF.

Oh, and why did Ben mention Juliet looking like Sarah? That weirded me out. What's the significance?

Crossed my mind, but I wasn't sure at the time. :/ I just dismissed it as being... Trivial.

New station name revealed at Comic-Con.

Spoiler:
The Orchid

Also a new orientation film starring Marvin Candle (aka one-armed Asian guy) under another new pseudonym.

Here's hoping someone took a video.

I'm thinking that it's a real station and we'll see the full orientation film in the next series, but this was just intended as a bit of a silly teaser for that.

There's a transcript of it on Lostpedia.
