I read up to the point where it said "Satanic Bible" and stopped.

I'm just praying that it's another case of the media blowing shit out of proportion.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

They're really not metal. :/ There's an influence there, sure, but they belong in the same kind of category as Spock's Beard or Coheed & Cambria.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Anyone heard Coldseed? It's a Blind Guardian/Soilwork crossover, and it's pretty modern-sounding... They released a CD this year, but all I could find was a single song It rocks damn hard, though.

"Happy Little Boozer" = best FM song EVER, let alone 2006.

Instrumentation is like... Soilwork-very-lite. Sounds like BG, but kind of industrial? Strid's vocals are more prominent than the BG guy's, though.

Also to whoever suggested the new Mercenary album, muchas gracias. I only ended up liking one song off of their previous album, but this one shows a big shift towards traditional power metal, and I'm liking it a lot.
I think that was me? Would've been a few months back, though. Yeah, great cd - A few of the songs were pretty forgettable, which was a shame (Simplicity Demand, Lost Reality, Obscure Indiscretion weren't very interesting). Still damn grabbing though.

Crystal clear, mos def. I can't stand the sound nor the reasoning behind raw recordings - How the hell does it matter if your songs are "tr00 and ag4in5t t3h m4instr33m 3vil" if they sound fucking horrible? If you're a professional, talented musician and you have access to half-decent production, then why fuck everything up in the interests of "TRUE NORDIC GRIMNESS"?

Seems that the metal elite can be just as fucking stupid as kids who listen to nothing but Dragonforce and Slipkorn of a Down Against The Lincoln Funeral.

I'm fine with old stuff sounding crap (first Ulver albums, for instance), but when a band shuns proper recording equipment for reasons I've previously stated, I can't help but get pissed off.

Agalloch are the best band ever.

This is objective fact.

The entire Of Stone, Wind and Pillor EP was folky in itself. Seriously, people can't listen to Foliorum Viridum or A Poem By Yeats and deny them of being folky at all.

Also, I recently acquired the new Estradasphere album, Palace of Mirrors. It's not strictly metal (there's a lot of jazz and gypsy music among other things), but the parts which are rock pretty hard. The closing track is pretty fucking wow!

I haven't heard their new album, but I did manage to sneak a look at a book apparently written by a band member yesterday. I saw "our mission was to sound like nobody else" and closed it.

ick trivium. They're pretentious and can't pull even that off properly.

The new Amorphis CD is made of GOD. "Brother Moon" is one of the most rockable-out songs I have ever heard. Ever.

Opeth's latest effort was pretty horrible. Then I learned what had gone wrong:

They signed to Roadrunner. ;_; Nothing of theirs will ever match up to Blackwater Park. Ever.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I think it's important to announce that The Project MCMXCIX have announced they're going to be releasing a new album imminently.

Also, has anyone heard anything about Wintersun's Time or Pain of Salvation's Scarsick? They both seem to be total vapourware as far as metal albums go

Number of bands I listen to with "Dragon" in their name: None, thank christ. I am proud of this. Also, "British" has one T. Furthermore, Kill Our-songs-are-all-identical-force and listen to Blind Guardian.

I just got the new Tarot album - The gap between the single and the album was horrible. ;_; Anyone who follows Blind Guardian will know the score.

Boris are seriously fucking cool. Great thing about them is that they release like three new albums every year - They have at least two out already this year, Vein and Altar. Vein is seriously weird, and Altar is relaxing. Kinda.

Not really. Rush are about the most plain straight-up prog rock band there is, so it wouldn't any sense to further classify them.

Floyd, on the other hand, could easily be called psy-prog.

So, sometime over the summer Vemp sent me Tarot's 2006 single, "You". Seems their album was long-delayed, but it's available now and it's called Crows Fly Black. None of the songs really sound like the single (parallels with Blind Guardian here), but it's so damn good it's scary. Anyone who's into power metal that isn't totally gay will LOVE this.

As for Sentenced, they're one of those bands whose name I hear all the time, yet I have no idea what they sound like and I've never listened to them. Time to look for torrents.

Also, I'll recommend Raunchy to everyong - Danish ultra-melodic industrial metalcore. Think Fear Factory, Lamb of God and In Flames all rolled into one angry bundle.

I was speaking idiomatically.

So, what band should a big fan of Fear Factory, In Flames (admitadbly I actually like Soundtrack to your Escape and Reroute to remain which I have the feeling are somewhat shunned by "real" In Flames fans...), Killswitch Engage, Children of Bodom, Unearth and, well someone who actually likes it when bands evolve their style and don't cry "omg they changed their style! I HATE THEM NOW!" turn to when he's in the mood of experimenting around a bit?
So, what other bands would be worth a try? Hellacoptas? Entombed? I tried Amon Amarth and Iced Earth but I'm not really made for that... "true" stuff.
Raunchy. Raunchy, oh god, Raunchy.

Specifically the album Death Pop Romance.

How ya doing, buddy?

There's a pattern in In Flames albums. First four albums were pretty great, but I don't see the hubbub about Jester Race. rErOuTe To AnGsT = Fucking horrible. Soundtrack = Better, but still pretty bad. Come Clarity was a pretty great comeback if you ask me - Not everyone likes it, but I thought it was pretty killer.

Heheheh, different strokes. Metal doesn't need to take itself so seriously all the time.

So I started listening to Edge of Sanity a few days ago. Anything with Dan Swano is good, right? Yeah, kinda. I'm having a hard time liking some of their stuff, but Crimson and Crimson II are very yes.

Double Post:
Oh, yeah, and it's probably time to bring THIS up.
