Definitely Jeremy Soule...His ambient theme (which seems to make up around 80% or so of the stuff I hear from him) should probably be what you're looking for.
Also consider both Phantasy Star Online/Universe and Junya Nakano's pieces...Both are known for being extremely moody and generally ambient electronica. Jam it back in, in the dark.
