Castle Shikigami 2-Probably well known to shmup fans, probably new to everyone else. Classic overhead-style shooter with sweet 3D graphics, special attacks and multiple characters. Only $10 or so and is surprisingly easy to find used.
La Pucelle, Growlanser Generations*, Ys: Ark of Napishtim-Three of the "lesser knowns" in the RPG world which are among my favorites in genre. Pucelle was the first SRPG I played since FFT and I really liked the character-driven story (as opposed to FFT's plot-driven story) and the myriad of options available (it was my introduction to Nippon Ichi). Definitely deserves more than being in Disgaea's shadow. Growlanser II (a PS1 game released as a PS2 game, actually) is another strong character-driven RPG with multiple paths, a great storyline and a very unique real time battle system (not to mention some of my favorite character designs) I'm amazed how much I missed the first time around. Haven't torn through III yet, but that's more out of wanting to wait and savor it.And Ark of Naphishtim was a more action-oriented Zelda 3 and was just a good time to play through. And technically, Suikoden V, because no one outside of the series' fanbase probably played it, but definitely worth of recommendation/mention/pimping. And one I discovered by complete accident: Tiny Toons Scary Dreams for GBA. Didn't know what to expect from the ROM, but it was a fiendishly clever (and difficult) combo-laden sidescrolling beat-em up. But with helpers (ala Marvel vs Capcom 2)! It's kind of button-mashey, but it's strategic mashing at the same time, since you're being hit from all sides and your partners die if they get hit too much. I couldn't get past level 2, but I had a great time getting there. This is one I'm definitely going to try to pick up an actual copy for myself, though I much preferred using a full joypad for it. Oh and it's by Treasure...Just thought I'd throw that out. Jam it back in, in the dark.

In that case: Project Justice. Amazing it hasn't been ported to another system yet. This is how to do the whole Street Fighter EX thing right. Just a great looking and playing fighter...Lot's of crazy moves, but plenty of strategy is needed as well (or at least a good sense of when to pull the double or triple team trigger). I'd love to see a sequel to this one.
There's nowhere I can't reach.
