So I got a ton of new CDs today.

Unearth - III: In the Eyes of Fire
Animosity - Empires
Shadows Fall - Fallout From the War
Nightrage - Sweet Vengeance
Glass Casket - Deperate Man's Diary
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Shape of Despair - Shape of Despair
Shape of Despair - Shades of...

I haven't heard Shape of Despair, Biomechanical, or Nightrage. Anyone know much about them? This will be my first Immortal album, only heard a couple songs but since it was 70% off I decided why not. I've only heard a bit of Glass Casket and Disillusion but I liked what I heard.

On that note, I was really surprised with Trivium's new release, The Crusade. They're almost adopting an 80's Metallica vibe here, and I can't decide if I like it yet or not.

Really? I felt that the new Unearth had more technical parts than their last one. The breakdowns weren't as numerous.

I too was surprised with Trivium's new CD, at least the songs I have heard. Though I'm uncertain with the Metallica worship or rather cock gobbling going on here.

I just came back from Metal Devastation, a local underground metal store and got myself a Death - Scream Bloody Gore tshirt and my friend an Emperor shirt.

That store is so fucking awesome, it has a wide selection of metal from black, death to anything inbetween. It has alot of hard to find stuff as well as a great selection of shirts. I need to go back with more money and my CD want list to get the discs I want.

So I got Vital Remains - Horrors of Hell and Into Cold Darkness; Lamb of God - Sacrament; and Unearth - Strings of Conscience for Christmas. I'm really digging the VR albums.

Also got Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio and Lamb of God - Killadelphia DVDs.

The only viking/pagan/folk metal I have is Amon Amarth, at least that I know of, and I've gotten fairly negative reactions to them on this board before . I like them though =/.

If you want them I can upload them to my site and send you a link.

I'd say they're melodic death metal, they don't sound anything like a viking/folk metal band at all. The only relation they have to those subsub genres are the viking lyrical content.

Some great news, Emperor is coming back to the States for three concerts in L.A., Chicago and New York! I am so going to the one in L.A. Man, I thought I would miss out on them forever when they came last year, but now, I have another chance! Fuck yes!

Sweet. I'll have to get the new Ensiferum when I get some money. I really enjoy that band. Any other bands similar to them?

The only other bands that I have that are viking/folk are Arkona, Moonsorrow, Bathory, Hantaoma, and some others I'm sure just can't recall.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Recently I've been listening to Mercenary - The Hours That Remain quite often. It's weird when I first listened to it I was indifferent towards it remarking how similar it sounded to Soilwork - Natural Born Chaos era. But then I listened to it some more, discovering the little nuances and the fantastic vocal melodies as well. Seriously, the vocals on that album are some of the best ever to grace melodic death metal. I normally don't listen for vocals, but I feel that it's those vocals that push that album over the end of being just a standard melodic death metal band.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

So I finally bought some more CDs today. Thank god for my new job! Woooo!

Emperor - Emperor/Wrath of the Tyrant
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse

That finally completes my Emperor collection, minus best-of compliations and live CDs, but they're not that important to me.

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain

I'm really enjoying this CD, even moreso than the Mantle.

Oh and I bought a ticket to see Emperor in LA in June. I'm going with a friend and his brother. This is going to be fucking awesome.

What? They're still touring? Same lineup?

This time Samoth is going to have his Visa to come to the States. Apparently he wasn't able to come through last year because of his criminal history or something, or he wasn't able to get it on time.

I'm probably gonna go see 1349 and Goatwhore this weekend. Haven't heard much from them, but it's $12 and would be cool to go to a black metal concert. My only exposure live is Dimmu Borgir. I'm also gonna go see Dark Funeral with Naglfar and Daath in October.

I recently picked up Atheist - Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence making my Atheist collection complete. Huzzah! I was going to pick up Angra - Rebirth but I wanted a little bit of money left over to last me through the week. Next time.

I picked up Vintersorg - Till Fjalls and The Human Abstract - Nocturne came in the mail today. I'm really enjoying Vintersorg. I was sold when I downloaded the title track and wanted more. I wasn't too impressed with Visions from the Spiral Generator, but Till Fjalls is exactly what I wanted. Great stuff.

I originally went to Metal Devastation to look for 1349 CDs but they didn't haven them! I've been looking for discs of them for a week or so now. I'd like to hear them more before I see them on Sunday. Anyone have an album of theirs and be kind enough to upload it? And if anyone has Goatwhore, Nachtmystium, or Averse Sefira as well, that'd be great. They're going to be on the bill as well and would like to hear them.

Dream Theater is going on tour with Into Eternity, I can't wait to see that.

I picked up Awake several days ago and it's not too bad. It hasn't really sunk in yet and I still need to pick up some of the essentials from their discography.

I started out listening to Mercenary about two years ago. First band with growled vocals I listened to and loved. I'd say they were kind of a gateway in that I now like Vader, Arsis, The Project Hate MCMXCIX alongside catchier stuff like In Flames and Soilwork.

Yeah I really dig Mercenary. I've been listening to the Hours That Remain quite frequently.

No problem Vemp!

I picked up Nevermore - The Politics of Ecstasy and Becoming the Archetype - The Physics of Fire. Pretty good stuff. Nevermore is self explainatory while Becoming the Archetype is a progressive death metal band that kind of reminds me of Disilluion. I'm definitely digging it.

I saw Emperor on Sunday and it was awesome. The two opening bands were pretty good, I was really impressed with Abysmal Dawn. I have to check out more of them.

Though for Emperor while it was awesome, I wished the set list was mixed up a bit playing more from Prometheus and some lesser played stuff from their earlier albums. Overall a good show.

I finally bought some more CDs. Here's what I got:

Summoning - Minas Morgul
Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
Unexpect - In a Flesh Aquarium
Angra - Rebirth

Right now I'm listening to Summoning and I'm really enjoying it. It's quite a blind buy, I listened to some MP3s but nothing stuck out in my head, I just remembered all the praise this band got. The intro to the Passing of Grey Company sounds like it could be right at home in a 16-bit RPG. I love it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I recently picked up Behemoth - The Apostasy, The Abssence - Riders of the Plague, and Nile - Ithyphallic. I listened to part of the Behemoth on the way home and it was quite awesome. So far it's not as good as Demigod nor Zos Kia Cultus but it's still a solid death metal album.

The Absence is quite possibly the best current melodic death album out and it's not from Sweden! Great heavy melodic riffs and vocals that aren't raspy and in fact go straight into death metal territory.

How ya doing, buddy?
