Yes well, Mars Volta isn't metal.
I went to Gigantour. That was pretty awesome. I missed out on Overkill though. ![]() Arch Enemy gave a good performance, they performed songs from Wages of Sin on up. Opeth was fantastic as always. Mikael Adkerfeldt was playing along with the audience, poking fun at themselves saying they were 'Pussy Swedes" and that they played "Cock rock, death metal, black metal, and cock rock". Great stuff. Lamb of God was next and I really enjoyed their set. They played a lot of songs from Palaces Burns to their new one. Only Black Label, I believe, was played from their earlier albums. Megadeth was fucking fantastic. Minimal talking, and just straight up thrash all the way through. They even played a brand new song which was quite decent and certainly had a thrashier feel to it. Dave Mustaine's birthday also happened there. We all sang happy birthday to him, and the crew brought out a cake. After he blew out the candles, he took the cake and tossed it into the audience. I wish I was in that area. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I like them as well, however when I listen to them, I cannot hear any metal influence in them. They might be influenced by metal to some degree, however they certainly don't play it. Most amazing jew boots |
Hey thanks for that. Arkona is certainly and interesting band. Folk metal is not completely my thing, but I feel with that sub-sub genre and others, help make metal one of the most diverse genres out there. I was speaking idiomatically. |
What's everyone's take on raw production? I know that in black metal it is considered 'tr00' and cold to have raw production, however I personally find it unappealing. Especially if it's intentionally done, I'm put off by it.
I have slowly gotten used to raw production such as Death - Scream Bloody Gore. That took me a long while to get past the production and to actually hear the songs. It is quite raw, however I feel it could sound much better if it was done in better quality. I remember hearing Zombie Ritual on the Live in L.A. DVD and it sounded phenominal. Human has muddy production which turns me off as well. The instrumentation and articulation just becomes lost to me. Yay to raw/muddy production? Or Yay to crystal clear production? What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
That'd actually be a pretty cool painting. The subject matter would seem more disturbing with the contrast of colors. If the production can be clear enough for various instruments to get through, then that's great. I just don't like a muddy mess of things that make everything incomphrensible. FELIPE NO |
I love Agalloch. I haven't heard the other bands. I need to get Agalloch's newest album and their previous ones. I only have the Mantle downloaded, which I would like to buy when I have money. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm sort of on the fence when it comes to folk/viking metal. I really dig Enslaved and Ensiferum, while most of the other stuff I have in my play list is something I need to get used to.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yeah sure do it. I'm lacking in Sodom and would like more Kreator.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Haha that's ironic. I thought Trivium wanted to be the next Metallica and does so by sucking on James Hetfield's cock.
I enjoy Trivium, but seriously, they aren't that original. They do sound like everyone else. If they wanted to not sound like everyone else, then maybe they should go for a different subgenre or incorporate different instruments or something. I don't know. I've only heard one new song from Trivium and I did like it. I'm glad Matt Heafy isn't screaming really, however he sounds exactly like James Hetfield. The music has certainly gotten better. Who's that? I was speaking idiomatically. |
Death really doesn't have much in common with death metal, unless you count their early years which has the old-school death metal vibe. Starting from Human on, they developed a more 'progressive' sound to them. Chuck really grew as musician following those. Definitely check them out. How ya doing, buddy? |
So all this talk about Helloween made me go back and listen to Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II, which I had for years and didn't like for some reason. Now I think it's pretty bad ass. At the same time, I go to listen to a Flotsam and Jetsam album that I have had for awhile and start to dig on that. Good stuff.
Someone mentioned Unearth, I really dig those guys, one of the few metalcore bands that I can stand. FELIPE NO |
I believe the general consenous here is that AC/DC is not metal but hard rock.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I didn't miss that.
![]() What does everyone think of the band Sentenced? I know that many diehard metalheads tend to shun their newer material and embrace the older. I don't have any albums, however the songs I downloaded from their website, I certainly love, especially the song Blood and Tears. I really enjoy their 'suicide rock' style. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
If you like Children of Bodom, you might like Kalmah. Kind of similar but Kalmah has many more melodies going on and I personally enjoy them more. Shadows Fall is another great band that has evolved their style from melodic death metal to thrashcore to more of a hard rock/thrashcore sound. Also check out All That Remains, sort of similar to Shadows Fall. One band to look further into would be Unexpect. I really don't know how to describe them other than being extremely wild and incorporating many different styles. I've only heard two songs from them but I really enjoyed what I heard. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yet they changed their style as well. You can obviously hear the difference between say Reroute to Remain and Jester Race or even Whoracle. They've went from focusing on melodies to more of a rhythm/groove feel. It was sort of like that with Clayman, still had plenty of melody however. Plus Anders on the later In Flames albums isn't a good singer.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
What bands do you think changed styles and remained awesome?
I guess Death would be one. They were originally a more 80s style death metal band and then progressed into a progressive death metal band and I think they got much better when they turned to that style. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
A red X?

I guess IE doesn't like it. Firefox does however.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Herherherher. Oh you kidder you. :lolsign: I need to get more Therion. I only have Secret of the Runes. FELIPE NO |
I wouldn't say that Amon Amarth are pure death metal, more like melodic death metal but I enjoy them quite a bit. One great band that has very simple riffs yet rock hard.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Exciting news for Therion fans, they're going to be playing a show in Romania backed by a full orchestra, choir and international opera stars. There will be pure orchestral covers of their songs, covers by great composers featuring the orchestra and Therion and classic songs backed by the full orchestra. More info here.
I really hope that this is being filmed. This sounds like a once in a life time opportunaty, which I'll unfortunately miss. If not offical footage, maybe some bootlegs. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I really don't care if it's in Romania, how come so soon and on such short notice! I could've saved some money at least.
![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I saw Children of Bodom with Amon Amarth, Sanctity and Gojira. That was a pretty awesome show. I really enjoyed Amarth though I felt the set was too short and could've used more songs from Fate of Norns. I enjoyed Sanctity as well. I didn't know them and didn't know what to expect. Gojira was entertaining if a bit repetitive. As for COB I really enjoyed the first two songs they played, but after that I was sort of meh, I'm not a diehard fan of them.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
