Genji 2
Well, confirmed last E3. This year they've shown a playable version at the Sony conference.
Definitely looks like a huge improvement gameplay wise. I love the idea of being able to not only be able to switch weapons on the fly (like DMC3), but also switch characters on the fly as well. It got almost like a fighter tag team quality on an action game, very cool. Though, the combos and overall control of the characters appear to be exactly the same as they were from the first game , rather disappointing. Also there's to be horseback stages, and battle fields with sea of soldiers/monsters on screen. Check out the demonstration footage at Game Trailers! http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2174 Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yea, the sea enemies on screen definitely gives me the idea of Dynasty Warriors. Hopefully, there'll be more new content to the gameplay than just the new additions of character and weapon switching in real time. Just checked out the game's trailer. It looks like Shizuna will be playable this time. Also looks like Yoshitsune's brother, Yoritomo, might be playable as well, as the trailer indicates that the brothers joins forces. The music is awesome, once again it sounds like Yasuharu Takanashi is back to compose for the game's sequel. Interestingly, they've dubbed the trailer in english, even though the mouth movements were clearly designed for the Japanese dub. Hopefully they'll keep the Japanese dub in the NA release, though, I see no why both dubs wouldn't be included considering the amount space on a blu-ray disc. http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/761/761160/vids_1.html There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Just a little update. Genji 2 has been renamed to Genji: Days of the Blade. Which sounds fitting, and better than just Genji 2, first one was Dawn of the Samurai and now they continue with Days of the Blade.

Some new screens, yup Shizuna is playable. Looks like she uses some sort of flail.

Some more info:
- Takes place 7 years after Genji: Dawn of the Samurai - Looks like enemies have weakspots - Demo hints that puzzle elements will encourage the use of different characters and attacks to defeat bosses. - Instant swapping of characters present and done via the D-Pad (kinda like Onimusha DoD) The instant swapping between characters is a very cool concept, which I'm sure they borrowed from Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. But with Genji 2, it sounds like you get access to the whole cast (Yoshitsune, Benkei and Shizuka, perhaps a 4th unannounced character). Source: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/730/730391p1.html I was speaking idiomatically. |
The TGS trailer available for download at GameTrailers.com. Shizuka looking hot, and possibly fun to play as. Plus japanese voice acting with english subtitles. Also, the trailers hints at Benkei's death... Heh, and one of the villains design look like a rip off of Munenori from Onimusha Dawn of Dreams. So, I think it's safe to assume that the final thing with include both tracks. The music sounds great as well, movie epic, I'm guessing Yasuharu Takanashi has returned for the sequel.

Ooo, looks great! Best one yet for PS3 games. The style is very similar to that of the first game's. The three star, playable, characters featured on the cover with Yoshitsune taking the center.
Ahh, can't wait... well going to have to, considering that less than 500k units are going to be available. FELIPE NO |
Bah, they expected way too much out of the gameplay. Especially when the game's a sequel and a launch title (hell, even I wasn't expecting much, just better graphics and more story with the same gameplay). Though at the same time I do agree that there should have been more considering that the PS3 costs $600 a pop. If they weren't gonna use the motion capabilities of SIXAXIS then they should have just released it on the PS2, that way we at least get the rumble.
However, the additions made sound great for the sequel. I like how they're giving us access to all four of the other playable characters by switching em through the D-pad. Weapons that actually give different combos/moves, the ability to upgrade them, and to switch between them on the fly. Heh, though a lot of the additions sound eerily familiar to those from DMC3 and Onimusha DoD. Too bad they didn't add more exploration this time, as that was a feature though. Would have been nice if they mentioned a little more about the audio aspect of the game (eg. if it have dual voice tracks). What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
