Hell yes, I'll be playing beta! Though not as obsessively as some others (damn finals). Man, MGO1 was so addicting and I imagine MGO2 is gonna be even more difficult to put the controller down. Ahh, such a shame to hear that the Master Key isn't included as an attachment, would have been sweet to have an M4 + Master Key + Scope. BTW, what's a datsight? Did they mean "red dot sight"?

PSN ID: KKL07

Thinking of changing that, since it's a pretty lame screen name. Heh, though luckily it won't be my MGO's actual character name thanks to Konami's system for the online.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I didn't know that changing your username was even a possibility...can it be done without losing your associated downloaded content (ex. Warhawk)...?
Haha, I actually don't know. I assume it possible though, since Live provides such a service, I don't see why the PSN can't do the same. Oh well, if not I'll just create another account. However I also noticed, when looking at profile, there's an Online ID and Online Name, perhaps it's possible to change one or the other later on.

Oh, and downloading beta now!

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Bleh, same crap for me and the Konami ID site as well. I did manage to get to the Information page last night (where you selected konami and game ID with PWs), only to get the inactivity error shortly after submitting. I share everyone's fears, if this is any indication of things to come, then I'm expecting a huge server crash the first of day service. Either that or one hell of a laggy play experience. Heh, though I really hope this won't be the case.

I'm also glad that they released the download days before actual service, otherwise I'd be pissed cause I still can't create a damn ID/acct. BTW, anyone when do the servers actually open on the 21st? Eg. 12am PST or evening release? Heh, if it is 12am, then I'm totally gonna be staying up the whole night to play.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It took a while for the site to load up, but I finally got my Konami ID and Game ID (rabbox79). Probably a good time for everyone to give it a shot, takes a while for the pages to load, but at least they're loading. Now I wish they'd at least allow us to create our character, whom I gotta a think up a name for.

I'm curious as to how the MGS3 online handled, personally. Were there ever any server issues, or shitty service in general? I mean, the people at Konami DO expect more than 10 times as many people to be playing online as opposed to their MGS3 reprint, right?

I just hope to god these stay online for more than 9 months...
Hmm, to be honest I don't really recall any bad service with MGS3 Online. Then again, that was like 2 years ago (they closed the servers around this time if I remembered correctly), can't exactly remember.

Hey check it out, the game manual is now online. A little reading to kill the time while we all wait.

According to the controls page R3, when aiming (holding L1) is used to switch the angle/side your aiming (much like GRAW). D-pad up/down used for scope magnification in FPV, and left/right for sidestepping in FPV, otherwise its used for chat/preset messages. And the piece I've of info I've been dying to know for the longest time: L2 is used for the sub-weapon fire (eg. Master Key, Grenade Launcher) when aiming. The controls are pretty indepth.

There's also a training mode for the game as well, which I thought is really neat. I might actually jump into that right away instead of a game match.

METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE βONLINE MANUAL - KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS

EDIT:
Also find an interesting piece of info, when checking the Information page of the beta file (in the Game XMB, highlight MGO Beta and press triangle) I noticed it said "Starts 4/16/2008 4:06 PM" and that it was "Created 4/16/2008 6:38 PM". So hey maybe the servers will actually open up early, like 4pm today.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Haha, oops, yea R2.

Man, I'll be staying up till 2am waiting to get my first crack at it. Hopefully there's no issues, but if the Konami site is any idication of what's the come then this could go bad. I'm rather surprised Konami wasn't anticipating this kind of turn out for the beta for their most talked about game (well, maybe not MGO, but a taste of MGS4 controls, everyone will jump in on that).

Well this is just perfect:

IMPORTANT NOTICE for all
METAL GEAR ONLINE PREMIERE BETA players

We would like to thank all players for their keen interest in taking part in the beta test.
However, we regret to inform you that due to extraordinary levels of traffic from all around the globe, we have been unable to run the service to the level we expected.
As a temporary measure, we will be deferring the start of the US public beta test until we are able to stabilize our server.
We would like to apologize for all inconveniences as well as confusion caused.

We would like to add that due to the above reasons, we will be making the following changes to the schedule:
1) Starting date: TBA. We will be making another announcement on 22/4/2008 23:00(PDT)
2) Beta Test closure: This will now be on 11/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT) rather than 06/05/2008 at 24:00(PDT)

IMPORTANT: Please note that your voucher code will only be valid up until 05/06/2008, so please make sure to register them by then.
A TBA starting date, lame. Well, I guess the upside is an extention of the beta to May 11th now.

Well, it looks like we got a new start date, April 25th 12am PDT, and even that's not a solid date. Bleh, what a waste of time this weekend's been.

This is cool, footage of the character creation screen. Heh, we might as well take the time now to visual how we want to design our character, that way we'll waste less time doing come game day. BTW, I'm impressed by how customizable the character's voice is (eg. changing the pitch of the type), didn't expect that. The face models look pretty impressive too, though not too many options there.

Heh, the creation actually turned out to be much more indepth than I was expecting.

Wow, after extensive play tonight (I think about 8 hours straight), I gotta say I'm addicted. The Drebin Points mode is probably my favorite because of the variety of weapons + attachments available is pretty satisfying (M4/AK + Grenade Launcher, thumbs up from me). Also popping heads is so much easier than in MGO1, thanks inpart of the new aiming system (heh, earned an Eagle rank because of this).

The only thing I don't like about the controls is the lack of an ability to run and gun, that element is definitely a necessity when it comes to online play. Other than that, I'll be continuously playing the beta till its closing.

A necessity for online play? I would not be so quick to make that pronouncement... after all, MGO is a different sort of game than, say, Team Fortress 2.
Yea that's true, maybe I've just been playing too much GRAW2 and Gears before hand.

I'm still pretty confused about CAP, it's a bit different from MGO1 isn't it?
Yea, this time the timer resets if both team has either the Gako or Kero and is at their capture. It makes for some intense matches, and some frustrating ones when people don't know what they're doing. Eg. a match I had yesterday when one of my team mates (who has the Gako) would be running towards the other teams capture in attempt to get back the Kero (I imagine this is the case), all while the other teams timer was counting down. Who then dies and the other team grabs the Gako, which then speeds the countdown. It's frustrating to play with people like them as you can't really tell if they're doing that on purpose to help their buddies on otherside, or that they just don't understand how the mode works.

BTW, Simo, can you hear me on my mic? It doesn't seem like it registers my voice when I'm speaking normally (and I got voice chat on), it's like I gotta shout into the damn thing before anything gets sent out. Haha, and I can barely make you out sometimes too, what are you using? I'm using the Bluetooth Jabra that was apart of the Warhawk bundle (which I manage to snag for the price of the download off the PSN).

I could hear you fine and my headset is a Logitech one which I know works well given I'm always on COD4 and people can hear me just fine. It seems like the voice chat in general is screwed given that everybody sounds so quiet and static even when turned up to vol.10 in the options window.
Hmm, that's weird. Cause there have been cases where I've been able to hear others speak crystal and it's usually just you that I have trouble making. Haha, unfortunately the ones that I can hear are usally those that have TOO MUCH to yapper on about cause they're either the only one with a mic or the only one using the mic in the team.

And hell yes! Can't wait to try out that new middle east map! And of course the sneaking mode, assuming I'm good enough to able to play as Snake. That should be one interesting mode, now that they tweaked it to be blue vs red vs Snake. No doubt that the new map and mode will be available after the maintenance tonight, which'll occur at 3am to 5am PDT (there was maintenance first night of MGO as well).

I got a chance to play as Snake and Mk II today, as well as the new map. Haha, man Mk II is pretty hilarious, just steering around going for the stealth stun. I love how both Snake and Mk II (Otacon) have their own preset messages as well, unfortunately I didn't get much time to fiddle with Snake as people kept swamping me (manage to stun, guys but people kept popping me before I could grab the tags). But what I did get do, I enjoyed and can't wait to play MGS4 even more now.

The new map is pretty sweet, especially how you can enter into the interior of the buildings, going for a steathly kill sometimes. Though at the same time these narrow spaces really hurt the view as well, making the camera real sensitive.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Played a few games with Hantei too including a GamingForce specific room and Sneaking mode. I wasn't aware that having the camo index at 99% made you completely invisible to the opposition which is why I waited for Hantei and shot him in the head with the Mosin from the shadows...Of course he got his revenge the next round. The one thing I was trying to do was the hold up but seems like you've got to be pretty close in order to perfom it.
Haha, man that was fun. A 1 vs Snake, greatest hunt ever. The Envg thing was really the only way I could find you, besides the beeping noise that the octocamo makes. Playing as Snake was sweet too, did you know that you actually don't need to lay down and play dead for the camo to change? If you hug the wall, or something, the camo automatically changes and you can shake the controller for it to change when you're laying down. Heh, the preset messages kinda give you a sample of the old voice as well.

Oh and Automatic Rifle Mastery lvl 3 is awesome, you get so much more headshots with it. Fast Move lvl 3 is great too, the difference in speed is pretty big. However I opted to stick with rifle mastery (+ plus enemy exposure, since it only costs 1 point regardless of level), since the frequency of my bullet's missing its target is much less. It'd be nice if they could increase the amount of skills points you have, maybe to like 6, so you can have at least two lvl 3 masterys.

I'll definitely be playing MGO, but I'm not touching it till I've finished MGS4 (well, maybe I'll create my character first). Last thing I want is some idiot to yell/message out story spoilers. As for the service, it should be online come the game's release on the 12th.

Oh and don't bother posting Konami/Game ID's, as they won't actually help you link up with other players. Your character's name is the only thing you'll need to give out.

What I currently have equipped for skills is Lv 3 Assault Rifle and Lv 2 Monomania (I'm pretty this was called "Enemy Exposure" in the Beta). I'm thinking of jungling it around to be either this set up of Assault Rifle Lv2, Quarterback Lv3 (only costs 1 pt), and Monomania Lv3 (only costs 1 pt). Or Assault Rifle Lv2, Runner Lv1, and Monomania Lv3. It's a flip of a coin over a little more speed or greater throwing distance, or neither and just focus on more accurate shots with the Assault Rifles.

One thing I don't understand is why more people don't use Monomania. IMO, this is one must have skill for team based modes. That way if I die, someone can pick off the guy that was gunning me. Or if I tossed a grenade and it hit a mess of guys everyone can pick em off before they get up.

BTW, you can actually slit people's throats with Blades Lv3? Heh, didn't know that, and I haven't seen anyone actually use it.

Hey anyone notice how under your personal stats there's a Team Sneaking tab now? Haven't had a chance to actually play today, so I haven't tried out the mode yet, I wonder what it's like. This must have been apart of the emergency maintenance early yesterday.

Can't wait till an expansion is released, as I'm tired of playing the same 5 maps. Three of which I played to death in the Beta. Anyone else tired of playing TDM as well? Seems like it's the only game type people will host. Lame, I prefer Base over all other modes, though it's a shame that how people don't know how to play the mode properly (been times where I was the only one actually trying to capture bases).

Oh, and I'm game for a GFF clan. It'll at least help stop all these clan invites I keep getting from people I don't even recall playing with.

Man, the site's such a tease, it says the new pack is out now, but you can't buy it yet. I'm definitely making a purchase, especially since you get an extra character slot with it. The map I'm most interested in is the Coopertown Conflict/City of Sorrow, it looks like it's a remake of the Brown Town map which was one of my favorites from the first MGO. I'm curious about the Survival mode though, I wonder how that works. Hopefully it isn't too hard to rack up reward points, as I'm dying to get my guy some new gear (mostly new camo). The special character selection (Meryl and Johnny) is probably be similar to the MGO1's system, where if it's enable the heighest ranking or lowest ranking players (or random, depending on host) of each team will get to play as Meryl and Johnny respectively (kinda like in MGO1, how the KGB team got Ocelot, and GRU team got Raikov). Haha, no doubt Johnny's salute is gonna be the stomach ache one, though it'd be sweet if they included the one he used when Meryl introduced Rat Patrol Team 01.

Oh, and I've been leveling blades as well. I got it to Lv 3, so I can slit throats now. Heh, it's which pretty effective and efficient for TSNE (which is my new favorite mode to play, next to Base). Though I personally find the ol' CQC grab (the one where you slam em to the ground) and stun knife combo to be much better. You can get both a stun and kill, it doesn't require any of the skills, and it's just as effective.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Already purchased, just waiting for its release on Tuesday! Also, it seems that inorder to get Meme you must have Gene. But they got a great deal where you can get both for $14.99, hopefully more people will start hosting the new maps. Can't wait to try Ocelot, though I imagine Meiling probably won't be too popular since she's purely support.

Haha, yea MGO really is one of the reasons why I still use my PS3. Though to be honest, I don't even play that much MGO anymore either. It kind of got boring since all people ever host are TDM or TSNES games, and they're always on the same 5 maps. Plus very few hosts actually use unique characters, who really add another level of fun to the game. My favorite game type is Base and very few hosts dedicate to it, and times that I find one the game is really stacked (like 8 vs 5).

Now the only time I actually bother logging in is when there's survival. And I'm pretty much guranteed a team every survival since my clan members frequent that and tournament. Though, even now I don't frequent survival all that much, I used to never miss a single night, too much BS during it (trash talking, glitching, and occasional network errors on my end) plus there's not much in the reward shop that I want (they really need to start adding more than 1-2 items everyweek).

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
