How many years is it supposed to be after RE? Looks like it might be 5 or 7 years later from the screen of the rumored Sherry. Oh, and seeing as how Chris is the main character, and rumors of Sherry being in it, will this mean an appearance from Wesker too?
Most amazing jew boots |
Sweet, the trailer is also up on the PSN. Downloading now!
I'm also hoping for Wesker confrontation. Just wouldn't be a RE starring Chris if Wesker isn't in it. Heh, it'd also be nice if Jill and Claire could make some sort of an appearance too. Unless Capcom is saving em for RE6 and 7. EDIT: Hm, gameplay seems more or less the same as RE4, same with the new enemies except their a little faster. I dunno, not really that impressed on that front. The VA for Chris sounds like the same guy from the RE remake. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The new trailer is also available for download on the JPNS PSN (probably the NA PSN later today too) and the Live Marketplace. Heh, anyone notice that the trailer seems to feature more caucasian "zombies" now? I wonder if that was in response to the negative media the initial trailer was getting.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Wow, now I'm really excited for this game. The soundtrack sounds pretty good, the piece they were using in the first trailer sounds oddly familiar to one of the themes from Onimusha. I hope that second, cam, trailer pops up on the J PSN next week.

Very cool, thanks for the share Kairi! Just a question, do we have to burn the content on a disc or can we just upload it to a memory stick and access it from there?
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Yea, I tried the memory stick, doesn't work. The 360 won't recognize the portable as memory.

The demo awesome. There are so many things you could do that I didn't discover till, like, my 10th time through. Things like transformers that you can shoot down to stun enemies, some flamable canisters in the first area that you could use, and even a SMG that you can find in the first part of the demo. There are also even more melee options than just the straight, uppercut, and hook. Like with Chris you can choke/neck grab the guy from behind, not sure how you actually pull it off as it was really a fluke discovery when I was split-screening with my brother.
I really hope they change the coop split-screen, I was expecting it to be something like Gears2, but what they gave us is really terrible IMO. It's so hard to make out anything in such a small screen (using a 37", maybe time to shop for a 70"). One thing I noticed when I was cooping online with Kairi Li was that we couldn't switch weapons, something you could when you're playing offline with AI or split-screen. Kinda odd, hopefully it's only a restriction that was placed on the demo. The best control type I found was Type C (RE4 with strafing). The strafing made it easier to navigate when walking, and because you're forced into a static position when aiming it kind of renders the Type D (shooter style) control useless. Took a while to get used to the RE4 style of controls again, but once it all came back to me there really was no better option for the game (for me anyway). Plus shoot/swipe(with knife) and melee being the same button made it much easier to combo the two. The AI for Sheva was pretty good, especially if you've set her up to be a healer. Though I do wish she'd use the ammo more sparingly at times, as there are instances where the knife works perfectly fine. It's also neat how you can set her AI to Attack or Cover. Attack where's she's much more aggresive in attacking and taking point. Cover, basically watching your back and healing. Waiting to try out the PS3 version, before I really commit to one version. Though right now I'm leaning towards the 360 version, as I'm most likely going to get more co-op time there (eg. more friends on the 360 are likely to get this). Anyone know what's being offered for the collector's edition? I'm assuming there is one, since it is RE. BTW, if you push and hold the R button and then presh the L button Chris/Sheva will do a taunt (push down on the sticks).

For those who wanted to see the TGS trailer on their PS3 it's available for download on the JPSN. Not sure how long it's been on there for, but it's definitely recently since it never came up during TGS.
Oh, and NECA is releasing RE5 figures. No surprise considering they made figures for RE4 and did a RE10th Anniversary line. I'd say the RE5 line is looking to be the best in the series, although Sheva looks kinda weird (something up with the face), especially now that they've finally added some articulation to the legs (elbow, torso, hip and knee joints). From what I can tell the articulation will be on par to NECA's TMNT line or Dom from their Gears of War line. Check out the end of this interview with Randy Falk to get a glimpse of an unpainted prototype Chris with the new articulation in motion. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yea, I'm with Dagobert on this. The CE looks nice, though content-wise there's nothing there that I'm dying to have. I'd probably never use the Tricell messenger bag, BSAA patch, or Kijuju necklace/keychain (they say it's one thing, but looks like another). The bonus disc contains some short 20 minute making of featurette. And the Chris figurine, well I'd rather just purchase the NECA one (articulation). I'm actually rather surprised Capcom didn't do something similar with figurine as they have done with Street Fighter IV (PS3 CE got Ryu and 360 CE got Viper, could have done something similar with RE5 had there been a Sheva figurine as well).
The price is kinda steep too, the bag is probably to blame for that. If they had included a soundtrack (like SF4, whose price is 10 bucks cheaper) I would have been much more inclined drop a pre-order for it. On well, in the end, I'll probably cave in and purchase it anyway because it's a collectable. At least the steelbook packaging has a pretty nice design. Oh yeah, the live marketplace has the second TGS trailer available for the download. You know, the one that showed Jill's tombstone at the end (it's no secret now, everyones blabbed about it). Interestingly, Chris has an alternate outfit in one of his confrontations with Wesker. I'm guessing Chris must have met Wesker once more after Code Veronica. The location they were in looked similar to the one where they showed the old man in the wheelchair in (probably Spencer). This could explain Wesker's line in the TGS trailer (the first one), "we last met at the Spencer estate, wasn't it?" Cause I seriously doubt that was in refernce to the mansion in the first game otherwise that would retcon his confrontation with Chris in CV, assuming that line is directed to Chris. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I got around to trying the PS3 version as well. I gotta say I prefer the Type D controls for this version rather than the Type C. Oddly enough the shooter type controls I felt worked much better on the the sixaxis/dualshock 3 than it did on the 360 controller. It's probably because I played a lot of MGS4/MGO, also could have been that the L2 worked better than the LB for the knife. The reversal of the Square and X buttons from RE4 made things kind of confusing as well for the Type C. If you remember in RE4 Square was to run/reload while X was to fire/melee/action, now it's reversed for 5.
Differences in the versions, well I noticed there was practically no screening tearing in the PS3 version. When I played the 360 version it often screen teared during the cut scenes. If it did happen during gameplay I didn't notice though, since I was too busy concentrating on not getting hit. The online coop over the PSN wasn't too stable for me. I kept getting connection lost errors when either trying to connect to host or right in the middle of the combat (like 3-5 minutes into a hosted room). Though, it not a big deal to me since I plan on getting the 360 version anyway. Playing the offline again, I noticed that Sheva's AI is really good when you set her to Attack. She makes taking out the Executioner and the Chainsaw guy so much easier. All you have to do is cover her and she'll focus potting headshots on the big guys (best to give her the rifle, she's awesome with it). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Beat the game the other day with my brother via splitscreen co-op, and man was it fun. We jumped right into verteran mode, since we both found the normal mode to be too easy when trying the demo before, and boy was it pretty challenging. The difficulty really stepped up when you started facing the tribal majini's in chapter 3, I think it was 3-1 with those two giant majinis did we get stuck for a bit, since we were trying to kill them. After our 7th try of that tactic we just gave up and just went with one lowering the bridge while the other distracted the horde and making the mad dash across right after.
I really enjoyed the Wesker fight, even though it was a bit of a puzzle at first, it was so satisfying when you land the melee combo successfully. The splitscreen I ended up liking, even though the screen was so much smaller compared to other games, I found myself getting less confused. As with Gears of War split I occassionally found myself looking at my partners screen, and wondering WTF I was doing. We just unlocked everyone in Mercenaries mode too, great to see that the mode has co-op offline and on. Sheva's Long Bow is pretty power, even though it lacks an aiming sight. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Just curious how can you play mercenaries mode illegitimately? The only gain there is the points you use for the bonus features, and unlockable characters for the mode. Both of which take effort, and teamwork, to earn anyway, since I don't know of any exploits for. Regarding Spoiler:

For Chris From the Front: Hook ---> (Sheva) Knee ---> Haymaker From the Back: Kick ---> (Sheva) Twist Kick ---> Backhand From the Front: Twist Kick ---> (Chris) Kick ---> Skull Crusher From the Back: Knee ---> (Chris) Hook ---> Spinning Back Kick Basically, one player's gotta face the front of the majini and the other its back. It's kinda neat how some of the melee moves were influences from Street Fighter; such as Sheva's Somersault, Wesker's Tigger Uppercut, Chris' Backhand, and Spoiler:

Hmm, I wonder whether this will be DLC for the 360. I hope so since that's the version I bought. It not then I guess I'll dipping again for this (good thing I didn't buy the first version for the PS3).
Heh, and I always wondered what it would have been like to have played that flashback, when first playing RE5. Did they mention if the flashback was going to be integrated into the main story (something they should have done the first time around)? Or will it be accessed from the main menu (the most likely event)? And down with blond Jill! And yes to a RE2 remake. FELIPE NO |
