Never seen Dungeons and Dragons. But I did see "House of the Dead", which Boll directed, and that was a heap of crap.

Other video game movies he directed are "Alone in the Dark" and "BloodRayne." Never seen "Alone in the Dark" and considering how this is the first I've heard of there being a "BloodRayne" it must have bombed.

Can't be, cause with the way it was presented in the trailers, it appears to be one of the first cut scenes we will be seeing when the game starts. Though I do agree it could possibly Fox's grave. However, I also agree with Kishin that it could have been Snake's own grave as well, perhaps reflecting on his own mortality.

Regarding the MGS4 Snake fig (though I suppose this is directed more to Simo), does anyone know where I can pre-order it? Or when Sideshow will start taking pre-orders? Cause I wanna be sure I'll be able to make an order before they stop taking pre-orders (I imagine this one going quick).

Thanks for the help Simo, guess I'm stuck checking every week. Be sure to inform us if they do start taking pre-orders (just incase I missed it). Oh and thanks for the wallpapers.

Haha, quite a lot of emphasis on Raiden's crotch there (*cough* the bulge). His hair appears to be kinda bushy.

Meryl and Naomi are looking hot. Likin' Meryls outfit, kinda of a mix of Snake's MGS1 and 2 outfit (pants and pads from MGS1, and skin tight suit top from MGS2). My guess is that she's wearing the unlimited ammo bandana. The single earring on her right ear, I wonder what its significance is.

Naomi's outfit is rather interesting, pantyhose? I thought she was on the battle field with Snake (at least it appears that way in the trailer), heh, don't really see any tactical advantage for wearing a skirt and pantyhose. hey, does anyone else think she kinda looks like Monica Bellucci?

Campbell with the cane, indicating he's quite an old man now.

Liquid Ocelot, shades and a yellow suit with Ocelot's trademark trenchcoat. Looks pretty cool I guess, the ID tags somewhat indicates that there'll facility to infiltrate.

Otacon looks the same, just with gloves and a turtleneck sweater.

And of course Snake, looks like he's holding an MP5A4. Heh, no M16.

I wonder who Snake will be teaming up with for the co-op level (well, chase level I guess, it really only was co-op in MGS2).

How ya doing, buddy?

Sweet, thanks for the re-upload Pietak. Heh, definitely want to check it out, since Simo mentioned the ad for the RAH Snake figure.

As for the MGS4 HD trailer, looks like Game Trailers put it up as well.

EDIT:
Speaking of Medicom's MGS4 RAH Snake figure, found some images of it at TNI from the 2006 Toyfair. This is definitely one action figure I have to purchase.

Ooo, great capture Simo! But I wonder why Snake would be visting the Boss's grave. I mean, it's not like he actually met her.

And Raiden without his natural blood, completely forgot about that too. I wonder if Naomi is the one who supplied the technology to Raiden then. Well, we see another possible motive for Raiden, besides Olga's child, he's probably after his blood too.

BTW, didn't Kojima mention a while back that there will be weapon customizations for MGS4? If so, I can't wait to see how that's dealt with. It'll be sweet to use a grenade launcher with the M4/M16.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Ultimate sweetness!!! I'll definitely be pre-ordering one! Though, I kinda wish they'd show some images with him doing different poses. That way we can see as to what kind of articulation it has. I wonder if he comes with another head without the snake eye (whatever it was called) thing.

Now all we need is a Raiden!

Sweet! Thanks for the scans Simo!

Looks like we can actually use the grenade launcher attachment on the gun. Something I've always wanted ever since seeing Snake use the M16 with grenade launcher attachment in MGS2. Haha, looks like our hiding won't be limited to cardboard boxes this time too. It also looks like we get an over the shoulder view, like RE4, maybe they changed the game's camera system to full 3D (though, hopefully they'll allow switching between top and 3D like MGS3 Sub), with auto adjusting settings of sorts (unless that's just the corner view...). Hmm, even looks like we can communicate with allied forces.

Ahh, can't wait to see the new trailer. Hopefully this time they'll include the new version of the MGS theme.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Aw man that trailer was awesome! Now I really want a PS3.

The new combat system is really neat too, the concept of lying on your back to shoot is nifty (why didn't they do this sooner?) and rolling while in a crawling position is a nice touch. Heh, there also appears to be a new method of crawling, looked like he was humping the ground (during the part where he crawling in the middle of all the cross firing between two forces, perhaps this is where they'll use the motion sensitive aspect of the controller).

Also cool how we can actually use the knife with 2 handed guns now. The octacamo looks like it adjusts on the fly. And the oil drum, haha, great!

As for the new music, it's pretty good, but nothing really to rave about. Though, definitely glad to find out that HGW was back, wouldn't be an MGS soundtrack without him (or Hibino for that matter).

Nice little gags at the end, and that young Snake, that has got to be more than a tease! It just wouldn't be fair, considering that we don't even get to play as Raiden after witnessing how cool he was in the last trailer.

Ohh, sounds like a good idea, I hope they do go through with that as well.

EDIT:
Anyone else noticed that the octocam effects his face as well? Specifically pointing at the first scene, where Snake was pretending to be a corpse, gets up and switches off the Octocam. Pretty interesting...

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

A high res image, thanks to Ruliweb.

http://ruliweb.dreamwiz.com/data/rul....htm?num=14980

Double Post:
Hmm also an article on MGS4's stage at TGS.

Hideo was commentating on the trailers as they showed them. He indicates that the first trailer (TGS 2005) was meant to introduce the game's setting and the second trailer (E3 2006) was meant to introduce the game's themes.

He also states that the hiding aspect of the game has been changed so that you have blend with environment, rather than hide in an object (eg. cardboard box, locker).

Kojima also says that the game will feature real people. That they created 3D models of people through 3D capturing, which he demonstrates with the MC maybe Kojima and staff will be making easter egg appearances in the game. This feature will probably more focused for the online aspects, perhaps allowing gamers to scan their face via Eye Toy.

HGW mentions that the use of the acoustic guitar was a sort of set theme for Snake being on his last legs.

Also, apparently MGS4's opening sequence will be more interactive than MGS3 (at least that's what I'm gathering from the info).

Quote:
TGS 2006: Metal Gear 4 Stage
Kojima shares new details on 2007's biggest PS3 game.

by Anoop Gantayat
September 22, 2006 - The biggest thing at TGS was, expectedly, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer. Thankfully, Konami, perhaps realizing that shaky-cam versions of the trailer would be leaked in a matter of seconds anyway, decided to give us a direct feed version of it, which we made available for download in record time.

After a short download, you were basically able to experience MGS4 as we did today (minus the 200 inch screen from the Sony theater, of course). What you weren't able to experience, though, was Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 theater presentation. Konami brought out Hideo Kojima and crew for the 2006 TGS Live Stage. In addition to giving us a commentary-filled look at the E3 MGS4 trailer, the presentation was filled with new insights and revelations on what's sure to be 2007's biggest PS3 title.

The stage show began with an opening filled with the typical Kojima Productions production values. Set against MGS4 music, text like "New Experience at TGS," "New Experience for Gamers," "New Experience with Special Guests" and "New Experience From... Kojima Productions" lead us into an appearance by the guests of honors, producer/director/writer Hideo Kojima and director/writer Shuyo Murata.

Interviews with Kojima tends to be filled with jokes -- you'd be laughing if you had an apartment in the Roppongi Hills high-rises. The father of Metal Gear started things off with a background check on Murata. We were given Murata's stats and list of titles, accompanied by his wedding picture taken in Hawaii.

Kojima talks Metal Gear Solid 4 at TGS

Things switched to MGS4 after this. Kojima first had last year's Tokyo Game Show trailer play on the giant monitor behind him. The sound was cut-off so that he and Murata could give their analysis. Most of what was discussed today was already revealed at the original trailer's release. The point of this first trailer, Kojima commented, was to show players the setting for the game. The trailer also revealed that we'd be controlling old Snake and introduced us to the new Otacon, who appears in battle indirectly through the Metal Gear Mark II robot.

Next, the background footage switched to the trailer from E3, with the sound again cut off so that the two could continue providing analysis. This trailer introduced some of the themes that would go into the game, in particular the PMCs, noted Kojima.

Prior to moving on to the new TGS trailer, Kojima went into an explanation about the new Octocam camouflage. To explain the system, Kojima showed the audience picture of a room, then asked the MC where she'd hide if she were playing hide and go seek. The MC selected first a closet, then under the bed. Kojima pointed out that these could be quickly discovered by anyone.

Moving the analogy to Metal Gear Solid 4, in previous Metal Gear Solid games, Solid Snake used the MC's methods of hiding, hiding in boxes or in lockers. In MGS4, the hiding mechanics now have players blend into the background rather than hiding in objects. Noting that this is how a chameleon blends into its backgrounds, Kojima pointed out that an even better example of this form of camouflage exists in nature: the octopus. Hence the name for the new system.

Yes, Kojima brought with him sample footage of a real octopus to prove that it changes color.

Murata made mention of the technical hurdles involved in this form of camouflage system. That sort of texturing requires the power of the PS3, he noted.

The dialogue switched to the new TGS trailer. As we noted in a preview from earlier in the week, the trailer was made by editing together clips from someone's actual gameplay session. The only difference from the real gameplay experience is that cinematic camera angles are used in the trailer.

Following a showing of the trailer, Kojima revealed that he and his team have done a lot of research for the development of the game. They went through military training and traveled to different parts of the world. Kojima shared pictures taken in the Middle East which closely resemble the setting for the trailers.

Then, Kojima brought out his first surprise for the day. He revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4 will feature real people. That is, the game will have 3D models created from real people through 3D capturing. The first example provided was of the MC, whose likeness will appear in the game. Kojima showed the process of converting the MC' face into 3D data, and the resulting model. This model looked close to the real MC, and Kojima stressed that there was a lot of hand-work to be done before it could be considered final.

Kojima wouldn't go so far as to reveal why the game will use real people. Regarding the MC, Kojima said that she's just one member of a group. He also said she'd be Japan's representative in that group.

We'll understand, at the game's release, the need to use real people, Kojima explained. But if you want to hear our current theory on the matter, here it is. Konami has said that Metal Gear Solid 4 will have online elements. The PS3 is going to have a high definition Eye Toy camera. Perhaps Kojima is planning on letting players capture their faces and put them onto characters for the online mode of play.

It's just a theory, so don't send hate mail if we're wrong.

Moving on, the stage switched to a discussion of music, with a discussion of composer Harry Gregson-Williams' role. Kojima appeared thankful that despite the composer's busy schedule, they were able to get him to compose for the game.

Gregson-Williams appeared via a video message in which he mentioned that between work on parts 3 and 4 of the MGS series, he worked on over 40 films! "I feel very fortunate to be doing Metal Gear Solid 4," said the composer, "because it seems to be a combination of everything we've been doing with the previous games. Kojima was here recently, and he seemed to be bouncing up and down on the couch, which I hope means he likes the music. This is only a start -- it's safe to say that we have a long way to go with the music, but it's fair to say we've made a good start.

"Being a film compser, I'm used to watching a picture and getting my inspiration from there. But with MGS4, I had to depend a lot on what Kojima told me he wanted. One theme he told me is that Snake is on his last legs. Acoustic guitar was his idea, and I kind of liked it, so we went with that.

"He showed me some of the images, and I was very impressed. He's almost making a film."

Next, the dialogue changed to another one of the game's Hollywood connections -- the logo. The game's logo was made by a Logan, a group of artists that has worked on recent Madonna and U2 videos. Taking the stage, the logo designer revealed that Kojima was hoping for a classic look for the logo, something that would remind players of something like Godfather. But at the same time, he wanted a modern logo.

Logan will also be designing the Metal Gear Solid 4 opening, Kojima revealed to close off the stage. The opening will have even more impact than the opening from part 3. It will be highly unusual for a videogame opening and will have game-like elements, said the logo designer.

We'll have to wait until the game's release date to find out specifics on the opening. But the wait won't be too long. While Kojima said in recent interviews that over a year of development still remains on MGS4, the producer confirmed today that Konami is still targeting a 2007 release.

Gamespot did a much more indepth article on the Kojima stage presentation.

Some interesting to tidbits, to me anyway, are:
  • Apparently HGW watched the E3 trailer 50 times, and came to Kojima saying that he wanted in.
  • The music for the TGS 2006 trailer, by HGW, is titled "Old Snake."
  • The game will feature a group of people based off real-life people. This was demonstrated with Yumi Kikuchi who was the MC for the stage.
  • Logan will replace Kyle Cooper in creating the opening sequence.
  • Apparently the opening sequence will highly unusual and futuristic (toppling MGS3's intro/opening). [Probably something to do with the PS3's motion sensitive aspect]
  • Also, Medicom's RAH MGS4 "Old" Snake figure was directly under Yoji Shinkawa's supervision. So we can definitely expect quality. I hope they consider doing a Rex or a Ray, that's be so cool.

I'm not sure whether that's teeth of just early/bad sculpting.
I think you're right. Upon further inspections at the different angles, it looks like it's just the lower jaw. Just funky paint scheme, mixed with the flash that made it appear like teeth during the first impressions.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Voice cast announcement: David Hayter back as Solid Snake, along with Flynn (Raiden), Eiding (Campbell), an Randolph (Otacon). Only a matter of time now before the announce the rest (eg. Cam Clarke, Debi Mae West, Patric Zimmerman, Jennifer Hale, ...).

Quote:
Metal Gear Solid 4 Voice Cast Announced
Who will play Snake?
by Micah Seff

March 29, 2007 - Konami announced today that the voice of Snake, David Hayter, will be returning to the role for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3. Hayter will provide the voice of the game's aging and worn-out Solid Snake, appeasing the demands of fanboys everywhere.

Hayter will be joined by a cast of returning voice actors such as Quinton Flynn, Paul Eiding, and Christopher Randolph, who will reprise their work as Raiden, Roy Campbell, and Hal "Otacon" Emmerich, respectively. In addition to his work as a voice actor, Hayter has made a name for himself as the screenwriter of the first two X-Men feature films (not the abysmal X3), as well as the rumored 324-page screenplay for The Watchmen film adaptation.

"I couldn't be more excited about this game. What I've seen of Metal Gear Solid 4 has absolutely blown me away. To bring the focus of the story back to Solid Snake, and to work with Kris Zimmerman and many of the amazing actors that provided iconic voices for the previous games, is like coming home," said Hayter. "I'm so proud and grateful to have been involved with Mr. Kojima as the voice of Snake, for nearly a decade, on this legendary video game series. This game is going to plunge players into the ultimate Metal Gear experience. And personally, I can't wait to play it."

On March 29, David Hayter will be appearing as a special guest on The Kojima Productions Report podcast to discuss his work on the game. The podcast is available on the official Kojima Productions website, and via the iTunes music store.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/776/776931p1.html

Also suggest listening in on the the KojimaProduction podcast, as there's an interview with Hayter with some incite on reprising role.

This is an interesting bit, speculation from latest KP Report podcast is that Olga's child is actually a girl and not a boy. As they mentioned in the latest podcast that there was a mistranslation about the gender of one of the characters.

http://www.metalgearsolid.org/show_news.php?id=1152

EDIT: Oh and it was mentioned that Christopher Randolph will be in for the next podcast, that should be interesting one. Haha, it'd be cool they could do one with each of the returning members from the original cast.

How ya doing, buddy?

Well this is rather interesting, and only further rattles the rumor bin about the game going 360/multiplatform.

Quote:
Konami's launched a 20th Metal Gear Anniversary website that gives a rundown of what's included in the 20th Anniversary Pack. There are also Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers, including a "remix" of last year's E3 trailer with smoother frame rates, more sparks, less yellow tint and better debris! What's missing? The "PLAYSTATION 3" logo which appeared on the original E3 trailer. Does that mean MGS 4 is cross-platform? Everything we've heard first-hand from Kojima and Kojima Productions indicates that the game is a PS3 exclusive, so we're not jumping to any conclusions before hearing any official announcements. You?

Oh and you can view the trailer at the 20th Metal Gear Anniversary site. The E3 06 trailer does seem better, framerate wise anyway, most notably during the part where Snake is being chased/ambushed by the Gekkos.

BTW, was the PS3 logo always missing from the 2006 TGS trailer? As this is the first time that I've actually noticed it being excluded.

EDIT:
Oh and interestingly, in the latest KP Report, Christopher Randolph aka Otacon mentions that they're actually doing the voice work as the game is being built (like for some scenes they're looking at the mocap work and have to imagine/visualize the situation, while performing). Which makes me curiously wonder if they're going to resync the mouths for the english voice overs...

Anyway listen to the session, it's a pretty interesting interview with Christopher Randolph as he goes over his experiences with the previous two titles and experiences for MGS4.

And will be the first ENGLISH trailer for the game.
Sweet! Was wondering when were going to get one. I wonder if there's any chance of them (re)syncing the lips for the english version, well I guess I'll just have to wait till the trailer to find out. Man, I hope that trailers pops up on the PS Store.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Most likely since they generally sync it up with the Japanese VA first and then use a tool to automatically match the animation to the English VA which probably explains why the synch isn't as good the Japanese versions.
Ahh, that's interesting I never knew that. Heh, yea I guess that's probably how it's gonna go down for MGS4.

Meanwhile collectors might want to break out their wallets since Sideshow is now taking reservations for the RAH 12" Solid Snake and Raiden figures. Schedule for release in Q2 2008 and don't worry, they'll only set you back $175 a piece.

It looks Medicome tweaked the Raiden figure though compared to when it was last shown.

Sweet! Raiden looks so much better now, I'm so relieved that they gave him a whole arsenal of weapons (well, blades).

Unless something shows up on Previews, I'll be going with CornerStoreComics.com instead of Sideshow since they're cheaper by ~26 bucks

How ya doing, buddy?

Ahhh, a relief to hear. The MGS4 trailer will hit the PS Store soon after the conference tomorrow, in HD and 5.1. Can't wait!

Quote:
If you go by our inbox, Metal Gear Solid fans have been ravenously scanning the Interwebs for any information regarding Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest chapter in the Solid Snake franchise. One of the most anticipated titles for the PS3, MGS4 has stunned gamers with its incredible visuals.

Tomorrow, Sony will have a treat for the Snake fans: According to Patrick Seybold, Senior PR manager at SCEA, via the Official PlayStation.Blog, the latest trailer for the game will be shown at Sony's press conference -- but PS3 owners will be able to download it exclusively from the PlayStation store shortly after the Sony press conference in HD and 5.1 surround sound.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was first presented at E3 2005 by Hideo Kojima, and like previous Metal Gear Solid titles, continued a tradition with another trailer during last year's E3. Seybold alluded to the ongoing custom in the blog post, saying, "What would E3 be without a new Metal Gear Solid trailer?"

Oh and is anyone else wondering if some of the characters will retain their accents that were lost in TTS? (eg. Naomi Hunter, Mei Ling) I personally would be kinda bummed if they didn't bring it back, since I'm partial to the performances in MGS.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
