The Joy of the Sharpshooter (Sup THE END)

I'm sure many of us gamers have played various PC and console games which have projectile weapons and fire arms as the main stray of weaponry on hand. We usually get the regular assortment of pistols, Uzis, machine guns, shot guns, and the like. The type of gun that I'm always eager to try out is the sniper rifle and check out how its scope is and how the rifle reacts in comparison to other weapons.

Some of my favorite games that involve the sniper rifle, whether it'd be a HK PSG-1 of Rainbow Six/Metal Gear fame, or some sci-fi like weapons, like the rain gun (although I don't remember it having a scope), just add that extra element of standing from a far and picking them off.

An HK PSG-1

A few games that come to mind:

1) MDK (PC)- perhaps this is the first game I remember that featured the sniper rifle that Kurt could use. Although this wasn't a seperate weapon, but more of a sniper mode Kurt enabled to use his regular chain gun into concentrated pinpoint attacks. It was quite amusing that the sniper mode also allowed you to lob rockets and grenades around, if I remember correctly.

2) Max Payne 1 (PC)- seeing the bullet exit the muzzle and make a beeline right to the victims head was extremely satisfying.

3) Ghost Recon 1 (PC) - I actually used the sniper quite extensively as I loved to pick off guys and see the rest of the enemy scramble, trying to figure out where I am, and by the time, THEM R WASTED!

4) Metal Gear Solid 1 (PSX) 2 and 3 (PS3) – Perhaps not widely used in the most part of the game, but some battles did use the sniper to get past certain points. Think of fighting Sniper Wolf ( I used the Nikita for the second battle, cheap bastard), and Raiden taking out the bombs in the Big Shell. Surprisingly, I thought it was easier going after The End with my AK-47 rather than camp for him, since by the time I spotted him, he’d hit me. =/ I really liked how the scope of the Dragunov SVD looked like.

5) Golden Eye (N64) – Sniping was an absolute joy with how the Z button and the shoulder buttons made this perhaps one of the best FPS on any console. God, I miss playing “License to Kill” in the Archives while camping and sniping.

6) Mercenaries (PS2) – So far, the sniper rifle is one of the most powerful weapons that can take down targets in one shot, even in the chest. Plus most of the enemy AI won’t shoot or won’t hit you from afar, giving you plenty of opportunity to knock em dead.

In this thread, post which games really made you enjoy using the sniper rifle to take down tangos. Describe if you liked the aesthetics of how the scope looked like. Even describe if you took "pride" in seeing virtual enemies plop to the floor after getting a clean head shot, thanks to you.

Also, for reference sake: List of sniper rifles

TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Define 'cheese'. I'm not familiar with this, because I'm busy dipping my teabag.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh, to fight cheaply. Well isn't the tactics that works best shouldn't be maximized, as long as it's not actual cheat codes and stuff in multiplayer games? I don't understand why people get so frustrated when I use a sniper rifle and camp. It's a perfectly legit tactic that they can also use or turn the tables by lobbing grenades. Players just sometimes don't think because they don't have a proper line of sight. I'm not immortal either. Seriously.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sniping in the R6 games was fun, because the targets moved slowly enough and reacted properly. But why oh why are the rifles never silenced. I mean, the whole purpose of sniping is to take out the enemy before they get a chance to react, plus stealth is a factor, so wouldn't a silencer just make sense? Unless perhaps in real life it alters the trajectory of the bullet too greatly, unlike a machine gun where the range isn't so great.

Most amazing jew boots
