I've been wanting to get a few DVD titles from Manga Entertainment. Namely, Ninja Scroll, Macross Plus- Movie Edition, and Ghost in the Shell - the Movie, as well as Stand Alone Complex series (1st and 2nd season), all which I have seen.

I have the Patlabor 1 and 2 releases from Manga, which now have basically been rendered "never to be seen again" due to my recent purchase of the Bandai Visual versions.

Basically, what type of quality can I expect from Manga, as I've only experienced their release quality with the Patlabor films?

Well I popped by HMV and got Perfect Blue for $15, and plus I've seen it and wanted to see it again, just for kicks (lol tease-dancing). Too bad that was the only manga release I saw for the 2 for $30 deal. The other movie I bought to fulfill that deal was Pulp Fiction, just incase you were curious.

Oh, well since Manga is the only one that has the GITS movie released in NA, well, it's a hell lot better than the Hong Kong versions I've seen. Also, seeing Patlabor 1 on VCD was a horrible experience. God. I watched a few scenes of Perfect Blue and it seems alright. You can bet which scene I forwarded to LOL.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

At HMV, the GITS movie selling for $29.99 CDN for the SE, and $24.99 for the Regular. So I mean for $5 more....

The AKIRA Special Edition is pretty expensive though at $50 for the box thing. The Signature Series from Pioneer ( the cheap cheap one) is like $19.99 CDN.

Also, yeah, about Perfect Blue, it's not as .... hot as I last remembered it. Maybe all those H are swaying things differently from what I remembered. Like what, 3 years since I last saw PB.

How big exactly is this poster. Like a post card or what. At least if it's of the Major in her famous "nudie-gun-pose", then that's cool. Quite a few years back, I bought a Hong Kong release of the AKIRA movie. WORSE. SUBTITLES. EVER. LOL.

Meh, looks like $29.99 going to be somewhat well spent. I've only seen that movie like 5 times LOL. And I think that's when I rented it from Rogers like 4 years ago, either that or the VHS tape from WAAAY back in high school from a friend.

I should try to find somewhere on the net to consult the Japanese police heirarchy of ranks are, in English of course. Perhaps your explanation is the most logical one, as this might be actually how subordinates address their superiors that command them in the Japanese mindset.

Here's something that has been bugging me for a very long time now, mainly because of ignorance of not buying anime that often, if rarely ever.
Generally when an anime TV series comes out on DVD, especially for the 1st DVD of the set, I see that there's a regular edition for lets say $23.00, followed by a more "premium" package with a few extras for lets say $30.00, which I still find somewhat resonable. But then there's sometimes this huge ass brick that often I get fooled into thinking its the entire season, but lo and behold, it feels so light - only to contain one DVD and perhaps a small thingamagig. WHOP. $50 for this brick. Excuse my ignorance for not knowing what's so special about something that will take up like 5 DVD cases and is labelled "COLLECTORS SPECIAL EDITION" just for one DVD. After reading the contents of what makes this so special, I wonder, what the hell is the rest of the box? =0. I've seen one with a T-shirt. Wow. But what other explanation for the hulking thing, besides for the die hard fan to go "Zomg I must now clear way on my shelf to fit this monster of a thing"
I could see the justification for the box set for say, the Patlabor 1 and 2 LE by Honneamise, since it comes with the Archives and Storyboard for each movie, and you can see what you're getting, so you don't just feel like paying extra for more cardboard. Please, educate me.

Ah, that makes more sense. But then I don't really need the box unless it's one of those fold out types or a thinpak. I'd only go for the boxset if well, it contains all the DVDs for that set, since those generally are cheaper than getting the DVDs by themselves, from what I observed after compairing prices.

Alright, I know this is going to be a very vague question in terms of the amount of information I can give you due to not seeing this anime for over 8 years, but can you help me identify the following anime movie/ova.

Facts I know about this particular movie/ova.

1) It was broadcasted in English dub on the SPACE: IMAGINATION STATION in Canada.

2) It was made prior to 1990, that I'm pretty sure of.

3) It features a rather dark haired male who was somewhat dumb witted.

4) It also featured a young white/silver haired lady who was rescued in a life pod.

5) Possibly one of the defining icons in the movie was a spaceship that sailed in space, filled with the masts and sails that let it achieve "hyperspace".

6) One particular moment I remember is this particular silverhaired lady in question needed some surgery or medical attention done. The doctor in the room needed the dark haired lad to take off her shirt to perform medical proceedures, and of course, he gets all jittery.

I know these are extremely pathetic descriptions, but a name of this anime would really solve the mystery of this anime.

GoShoGun: The Time Estranger
Galaxy Express 999
Macross

Again, any help would really be appreciated.

At first I was afraid that people might have taken it as Star Blazer/ Space Battleship Yamato because the description can be taken as a WWII era battleship, which is what the Yamato looks like. This Starlight does ring a bell. Shit, I better start looking this up on DDD or rightstuf. Thanks Q.

Sure, why not. Although it probably does suck, which is why people haven't heard of it, and me being totally new to anime at that time, didn't know better and declared it as being animated awesome. How naive of me back then. Torrent time!

This is, without a doubt, one of the dullest movies I have ever watched. It's so boring, in fact, that I had to watch it in three installments. There's just no way I could get through all of it in one sitting.

Being a science fiction fan, I was hoping this would hold my interest. The space ship design harkens back to 18th century sailing ships, and seeing these ancient ships floating in outer space was kind of neat.

Unfortunately, there is nothing else noteworthy in this movie. The story is simply boring at the best of times, and very convoluted and unfulfilling during the worse. It involves the crew of the "Starlight" space craft who discover a mysterious ship while cruising in deep space. They find a survivor on board, which only leads them into a much deeper mystery. It seemed like segments were missing, and apparently about 40 minutes or so was cut from the dubbed version. This led to some head-scratching as I tried fathom where certain elements were coming from. Not to mention that the ending was an incredible let-down.

There was a fair bit of action, but even it proved to be tedious as well. The sound effects were incredibly cheesy, reminding me of the Atari video games from the 80's. The voice actors were also quite anemic, lacking proper emotions and the ability to act.

There is nothing to recommend about this movie. Want outer-space science fiction? There are dozens of better titles to choose from. Need something to cure insomnia? Hey, maybe Odin's got a use after all.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Good day fellow Animespoters,

Have you experienced any problems with skipping or very huge pixels that flood the picture in any of your New Retail anime DVDs so far? The DVD in question is the Geneon Release of Fushigi Yugi DVD # 3, which half of episode 16 is unplayable, and ALL of episode 17 is skippage from hell, even the player freezes – all three DVD players in my house. :3

I think this is the very first time I’ve ever experienced huge problems with a DVD, but I’ve contacted the vendor, Rightstuf, and they are willing to exchange this DVD for the same title, so that’s cool. I’m sure that over the millions of anime DVDs produced, perhaps a very small fraction of them will have some errors – which is a fact of production, or the disc is just not properly finished in the factory, or whatever the case maybe, so I’m not freaked out – yet!

Now, switching the topic over to anime opening themes and ending themes, how does the creation of the OP theme come about? Does the production team or producer, or whomever it may be, contact a currently hip artists to do the OP/ED theme specifically for that anime series, or, does the production team already choose an existing song that is already released on the market and contact the artist/agent/recording studio – or basically who ever has the rights to the distribution of the song to be used for the themes?
