I watched the 4 minute "Hope" trailer with the CG cutscenes as well as the 10 minute in-game demonstration. I'm quite excited now for this game. One thing I noticed that it seemed that when the party was fighting the fire bombs, the pace seemed somewhat static and frantic at the same time. The explosions all around Vaan seemed somewhat confusing as it looks like his ass is getting kicked, but the HP meter didn't seem effected too much.

At any rate, if the August 1st release date holds true, then this will be quite conveniently released a few days before my birthday.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Some people just can't wait.

Oh well, I (as well as a *FEW* others) wait patiently for MGS3:SUB.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Shit, about 9000 yen = $90 CDN. Well actually that's not too surprising. I remember seeing quite a few new games, including FFX-2 (in May 2003) selling for about that much whilst in Akihabara. Meh, they can afford it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

This question might have been flung around here (and perhaps the old FFXII thread pre-crash) but does anyone know of Japanese voicing in the NA release? I highly doubt it, but meh, I've never been impressed with NA voice acting.

I doubt the Japanese dubs are all that great either, but at least I won't understand close to 95% of their whiney bitchy voices. (Actually I have yet to hear any of the voices for FFXII characters.)

PLAYASIA is selling for $84 w/o shipping I believe.

YESASIA is selling for pretty much the same price. I bought from them before and they seem competent enough.

Here is some special limited edition FFXII memory card. Interestingly enough.

And,

Here is some preview "world" book.

Same, I'll wait. Getting it now won't help cause my PS2 is sad and unmodded --> a "virgin" PS2. So add another $140 some if I REALLY wanted to play it. Oh yes, MGS3:SUB comes out for $40. That should keep me busy for a while.

How ya doing, buddy?

I can already see SWARMS of Japanese school children and salarymen from the office play hookey down in Shinjuku and Akiba. LOL. Come March 15 at like 12:00 PM.

MASS MIGRATION of the gamers. (Actually, that would be pretty funny to see...the store clerks at Aso Bit City going, "OH SH--".)

This is probably posted but looks like EBgames will be shipping out/releasing in October. OMG. >_>

Something tells me I'm not getting a PS3 for a VERY long time.
(The whole time and money issue, lah)

Just to clarify what you mean by "it".

Eg...FMV of the opening sequence or in-game playthrough...?

So Zip, how's the battle sequence? Does the music change? What do Vaan and the others do once they finish their attack? Does it look like they just stand there?

Sadly, I have Vagrant Story but haven't gotten around playing it yet. Still so many PS1 games to get through. The PS3 can wait, for all I care. Not FFXII though.

Heh, I remember going through FFX for about half way with no vibration. Not that the game required much to experience it, save for summoning the aeons.

That was a nicely executed opening introduction. It retains the Final Fantasy atmosphere by employing the all-too-familiar FFIV Prologue, as Motsy has mentioned, and gave a brief but well done scroll through the major characters and eventually the "summons" as well as monsters, and flowed seemlessly to the main menu screen.

The more I watch it, the more I'm falling in love with how the characters are portrayed in-game rather than with CG. The animations and faces appear very compelling with emotion that I must remember this is still a game.

The CG done for these characters as seen through the multitude of trailers available is quite remarkable, if I may note. Watching the "hope" trailer again, we see the long dark haired warrior, Vayne, give military commands to his troops. In this CG sequence, the way that his face and hair "swing" give off that aura that he is alive. Here's a screencap to focus on what I'm trying to describe:

I would almost go so far as to say that I find these characters more believable than the ones portrayed in Advent Children. This is not to say that Advent Children was not executed with equal aplomb, but the characters in FFXII appear to have a better "connection", or in other words, to seem to be more "alive". What are your thoughts?

Holy shit, I keep forgetting Metal Gear comes out tomorrow. I'd hate to admit it but I'd rather have this instead. (Okay, I STILL DO want MGS3:S)...

True, them and their budget to produce something like FF: TSW and FFVII:AC. Squarenix surely has the talent, experience, and most of all, budget to produce top notch CG. A problem I feared was that this would turn into a "DROOL LOOK AT ME CG FEST" and not put much thought into the battle/quest system, instead putting out a "rehashed FFXI", which I have never played yet.

* The prologue/intro is amazing. The battles are like watching a mix of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Pretty fast paced too. Events happen one after the other, so not many long dialogues.
I guess this somewhat elevates my concerns about the 10 minute playthrough posted in this thread that depicted Vaan as just "standing there" getting his ass kicked.

color of their gauge shows if you are strong enough to beat it, now this is pretty useful.
This reminds me of those text based "MUD"s where you type in the command of "consider killing or fighting" and the text would either say something descriptive like, "Your experience would enable you to prevail" or something drastic along the lines of, "Do you have a death wish?"

FFT rocked man. Loved the gameplay, music, strategy involved etc.

BTW, how are you guys finding the communication of what the characters are saying so far, seeing that you're playing the NTSC-Japan copy. How difficult is it to navigate around talking to people, doing stuff since it's all in Japanese?

I do intend WILL PREORDER a copy come October-ish, praying that the November release date holds true. Yes, Elixir, there's quite a few Japanese games that I'd love to try as well, but due to the obvious language barrier, very very few of these keep my attention span for an adequate time to complete the game, unless the concept is quite elementary - a few sports/competition games for example. Something with the likes of an RPG requires utmost patience to try everything out and talk to every NPC in hopes of progressing in a foreign language video game.

Fighting games are usually pretty straight forward. You just gotta know which button is to "select' your characters. Usually most formats of the button layouts are somewhat similar. You've got your D-pad or D-stick on the left, and the 2 rows of three buttons are usually for your high-mid-and low attacks. I know a few arcade places in Chinatown here have the imported Japanese arcade console but the locals get used to it pretty quickly.

Shoeless, all I could pick up were the "WHAT?" and something about Basche asking how old the youth was...replying with 17 years of age. Something happened to his mom and dad I presume? Not much help there, sorry.

Agreed. I'm sure FFXII will be a very good game, but making the console itself engraved with some FF emblem will just seem odd whenever you're putting in other games.

Am I playing FF? NO WAIT! IT'S MGS!

It's pretty much targetting those absolute HARDCORE FF Fanatics who can't get enough of FF. I'm still more than happy with my old fat type PS2, even though it's not modded. >_>.

I'm quite well aware of the swap-dics, Elixir, but still, from what I've heard from friends who tried both ways, they say modding is the way to go (when you have the available money, that is). I know a place just in my local Chinatown (wouldn't you believe) that will mod PS2s for about $140 CDN including parts (i.e. the chip) and labor.

I'm curious now how much a Japanese PS2 costs (just pure curiosity)...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
