Oh noes, I'm trying to do a hunt Nr 16 - Deserters Rvenge - BLOODWING. How do I get into Barheim Passage? I have the Barheim key but that's for unlocking a door. I saw that there is a red save crystal, and I'm 10000% sure that I saved at that one. And for some reason I can't seem to teleport nor enter into Barheim Passage! HELP!

And yes, somehow I'm starting to play FFXII again, despite having a 360 for 2 days.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

But I visited the Eastersand and all I see is just the rubble to the entrance of where I fought the mimic queen.

Also, just took down one of the hunts in the Cerobe Step. Not that bad. And the Lindwyrm hunt was pretty easy. Just sleep, blind him and keep casting non-MP magic (ie Shades of Black) and start using Bio at the end of the battle.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Nay nay, there is another entrance north of the collapsed entrance. From the old entrance, go north to the next map and go all the way to the east. You'll see the new entrance there. There's also one of the Mimic enemies at that location, so you can't miss it.
Roger, will proceed NORTH in the Estersand and scope out another entrance into enemy territory, over and out.

The White Mousse and Orthos are basically in the same area, and they're both blobs. I beserked the white mousse so it didn't do much, or maybe I beserked 2 of my members and they kept pounding that thing to dust.
The Othos I just kept spamming with ra level spells. It didn't really do much.

I think the most challenging mark so far was the rank VI Overlord. Yeah his light attack with hit all party was annoying, but I had auto-phoenix down, so they'd be revived immediately. Very helpful. This set up totally reminds me of auto-item - union plume for Valkyrie Profile 1.

Can someone tell me if the new section of Barheim Passage is difficult? I checked up and the new place has TONS of bombs (5000 hp) and Dark Skeletons (6000-7000 hp) and those look like seriously tough customers. Please do tell me there is a save point here. My guys are around level 46-49 now.

How should i level my secondary characters, without getting bored?
You can get the embroidered tippets that give you double exp when you fight, NOT the Golden Amulets, those give you double license points. Level 99 is basically a legendary status (wasn't it level 100 in FFVIII?) in which if you want it, you've got to work for it. I don't know how much difference it is with 99 vs maybe level 50 (as in terms of how easier the tougher boss fights will be), but obviously the higher you are, the easier it will be, me thinks.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I have curaja but damn it's expensive - 68 MP, even with the augmentations to lower the casting requirements. I better check my gambits because one of my members constantly attack bombs even though they're neutral, or aggros them. I better go "FOE: Party leader's target", not "FOE: Nearest/Any".

Bad news is that my PS2 croaked. It literally won't read anything. If anyone has any good resources that say how to fix this, I'd appreciate it.
What model number is your PS2? Is it the fat one or slim one? I've had mine for 4 years now and haven't had any major hiccups, however, I wouldn't be surprised if it tanks out sooner or later. However, the 70000 series (thin ones) are pretty cheap now at about $130 CDN. And thanks for the tips for the Barheim Passage. Just as long as there's a save point RIGHT before the Death Seraph, I think I should be A-OK. I can just restart the game if the timer runs out. That's what I'm most concerned about, after reading the guidebook.

How ya doing, buddy?

New PS2, seriously. Even if you can repair it, where will you do it? They'll probably charge $40 for labor and $30 for parts if necessary, and still you know your PS2 will have a history. Plus you get a sexy slim line, how can you say no? Unless you absolutely NEED the harddrive for it. =/

Hey I just finished Barheim Passage too! It was easier than expected, unless I accidentally pissed off a bomb and it called its friends over. The bloodwing was pretty easy. I shades of blacked -kuroi mahou - it until it succumed. But the battle that was MOST interesting was the Zelera: Death Seraph battle. That one was EASY PEASY. Most of his attacks are pretty weak, and even his death spells didn't do much due to my difference in levels. 5 minute timer? PFFF its just meant to scare you. I downed him not even 2 1/2 minutes. If your guys are doing 1500 per hit, then that's more than adequate. Just put your gambits as:

1) Phoenix Down
2) Esuna
3) Attack

And then heal manually. He's not going to hurt you that badly. And why is that chick on his arm sorta hawt in a gross disgusting way. Oh wait.

Anyays I keep hearing about this bad guy Hunter that Mont Blanc is so worried about, which is obviously the dude: . When does he show up?

Also, I'm going to do The Great Cockatrice Escape quest now. Is it hard?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Adrammelech was pretty tough actually. I thought the shambling coprses really made things difficult, hitting me and almost constantly downing KOing a lot of my guys. There's a nother side quest that I can't seem to complete, its the lovestruck man and the viera. The viera doesn't seem to be where she's supposed to be, even after looking at the guide, and the dude says "oh I saw another viera somewhere etc".

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'd like to learn the mug/poach skill. When and how do I get this skill? I hate having to gambit steal then manually attack each time. That fat Cuchulainn looks the most creepy, while Zalera Death dude looks more ominous foreboding presence. I learned that you could cast very high level (Scathe, and all sorts of high level BLACK magic) using Shades of Black, even if you haven't learned it nor have the scroll from the magic shop. Also, I have access to all the Grimoire books, except the $250,000 urn potty thing. =/

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't think Zelera is holding the chick, the chick top torso up to her breasts are part of Zelera's right arm, which makes it even more creepy. I think that's more creepy than FFX Amina and his overdrive (the undead underbelly, or FFVIII Ultimecias' true form underside). I guess power just makes people ugly.

With the canopic jar, so I hope not all my loot becomes basically Arcanas and I only sell them for like 10 gil. That's useless. I'd rather have a ton of assortment stuff to sell.

How ya doing, buddy?

As far as I know, it doesn't matter when or where you sell your loot. Any Bazaar will restock as soon as your total number of loot items sold hits the required mark, so keeping your loot is pointless.
That is true, I got the Hi-Potion pack (now pretty useless) multiple times by selling some bones or something, I dunno. But yes, *some* of the bazaar items are re-doable, while others, like the Grimore books, are 1 time only.

The FFX quest for celestial weapons was hard but worth it. The only annoying quests were for Yuna and Lulu. Lulu's wasn't that bad of doging 200 ZEUS JUICES, if you just read up on gamefaqs and had a good concentration, but yeah didn't feel like going to collect like 10 of every monster for Yuna. Tidus', Auron's, and Wakka's ultimate weapons were worth it though. 40,000 damage for the win. Talk about OVER POWER. I hear the highest damage in FFXII is only 60,000 - the black hole, which is pretty tiny in the scales of damage - the ultimate limit breaks for Cloud and Squall easily surpassed 60,000, I'm sure. What was it, 12 hits of Lion heart for 9,999 damage each strike? And I can't remember Cloud's Omnislash, but that was pretty high as well, and the chances of scoring that a pretty damn slim, but with Anima and Bahamut, you could over drive and score 50,000 damage easily. Honestly, which monsters even needed that type of damage? Only the Omega weapon, but that was a joke if you had all your aeons on overdrive. I'm starting to miss FFX now ;__;.

I think that's the main short comings of FFXII - such weak "massive" damage - especially when you've got so many difficult insane bosses - and well as the weak summons/espers. Hell Wyrm, Yiazmat, Zordiak, and what have you. The quickenings are all based on slim chances which you can't alter, even more so than FFVIII and triggering limit breaks. I honestly never complained of having to be in critical status nor casting aura, since the limit breaks for that game were SWEET.

At any rate, FFXII concentrates more on gambits than attack GIANT ENEMY CRAB FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE, so that's that. And it's fair in the end.

I think the best minigames to acquire rare stuff was the Triple Triad of FFVIII. NOTHING comes close to how fun and addicting that minigame is. The most boring side quests so far? Collecting those sun stones in Giza Plains. Seriously.

At any rate, Just finished cleaning up the Great Cockatrice Escape. Boring sidequests but whatever. My interest for this "Nebudis Medal Collection" has grown, as it looks like the longest side quest (probably 4-5 hours worth) of time. Any tips for that? I'm just having a brief look in my guidebook now.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The Hunts are actually a pretty good "minigame" if you could call it that, and probably a refreshing part of the static type of games. Initially I HATED blitzball, but I grew to love it when I got around the basic mechanics and basically owned every team with the Jecht shot.

I'm surprised people hate the 200 bolts that much. Well actually I hated it too, but after you accomplish it, you're like HOT DAMN, Lulu, have I got a nice toy for YOU. Sure the chocobo racing was tough, but it just takes trial and error and also a bit of luck to do it. I think I spent about 2 hours for that, I mean we're talking about ULTIMATE WEAPONS here.

Wow, I still have a lot of work to do as in terms of pure side quests. I might even want to print out this guide so I can keep track! With all this, I can guess another 20 hours easily for the remaining marks. Some may take 10 minutes while others stretched out on several hours – you know who you are. The side quests will probably take another 30 hours I’m guessing.
Levelling up will take a considerable time. I’m going to budget 25 hours of PURE level grinding to hit level 99 for all my characters.

At this moment:

Vaan – 40
Balthier – 50 (It’s decided him and Fran will be the main stars of the “show”)
Fran – 47
Basch – 47
Ashe – 44
Penelo – 44

And of course the story element will probably last me for another 20 hours. As in terms of story, I just arrived at Balforheim port and have been doing side quests and hunts ever since. As for story wise, I’m supposed to go to the Feywood. Furthermore, I’ll budget about 5 hours to miscellaneous stuff like running around from field to field, getting into fights, shopping, etc. So that’s at least a minimum of: 20 + 30 + 25 + 20 + 5 = 100 hours from this point on. That’s pretty crazy, and I don’t even know if my estimates are accurate. Metal Sphere, you have over 250 hours? I’m sure you’ve cleaned up everything by now, no? And yes, I’m like this type of person to calculate everything as best as possible. My profession is accounting anyways, so I see things in units of time and monies. Just to let you know I’m also having fun with this as well, right? That’s the whole point – entertainment, just incase you were worried I was losing my marbles and dreaded playing this any further.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Oh, and yes, sandstorms are incredibly rare after you take down the two monsters credited for thriving and perpetuating them, the Ring Wyrm and Earth Tyrant. Other than the sandstorm I forced to spawn by coming into the Westersand via the Tyrant's/Wyrm's Nest map, I haven't seen one (sometimes you get a fine "sand mist" that lowers bow/crossbow accuracy).

So the main point of sandstorms is for the elementals right? I know for sure that there is a Enome Entitite or something like that in the Nam sandsea area, so wouldn't these two enemies be the same thing if I need to steal from them? I guess I'll just postpone the Earth Tyrant quest for now.

You already had Ga spells by then? I went up to Adrammelech with only Blizzara, and managed to do only like 1000 some damage. The hardest Esper I found was Mateus, actually. I concentrated more on "HIM" than his 6 little friends, which wasn't a smart move. So far that's one of the hardest fights so far, I'm not too sure why. Maybe I forgot to put back my heavy armor and put gambits on after fighting the previous MAGNETIC guy.

Easiest was Death Seraph. What a cake walk.

Quote:
Another thing I've noticed is that the BradyGames guide is terrible.
The guide was such a rush job it isn't even funny. There are parts on numerous maps, especially Tcatchi highlands where it doesn't show the connector bridges - paths from one area to the next on the printed map, so I ended up having to resort to the game map. Utterly useless I tell you. That's like a minor issue. The major ones I would consider would be where they tell you to reference to a page number, but instead it's filled with page ??? instead of page 100 for example (see Patient in Desert sidequest for example). At least the Artbook is nice. Also, the book isn't very good if you need to open up the guide flat - the spine already has a huge crease from me having to use a paperclip to hide the final battles with spoilers - and some of the pages have already come completely loose. So I patch it up with scotch tape. Whatever. At least it makes the Hunts easy to work around.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm trying to do the Antlion hunt now, and let me say that I didn't expect the headless trolls to be somewhat tough. They get deadly when they are in packs of three or more. I'm somewhat scared now to take down the Antlion, despite seeing that it eats up the Killer Mantises, which according to the book, I should target first.

And pardon me for asking this nutty question. Where exactly is this "Nabreus Deadlands" that I am supposed to go to, for me to continue my Nabreus's Medals? Is the Necrol of Nabudis (off of Salikawood) an optional dungeon or story driven?

There's nowhere I can't reach.
