If you have most other firewalls, they will disable Windows XP firewall, let them. If not you might have a Spyware/virus in your midst. Check for both problems.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Windows firewall is pretty lame though, I suggest stepping up and getting something better, like ZoneAlarm which does a much better job as a software firewall. Windows' firewall won't protect against outbound hacking, meaning if you got a virus and soemone wants to send your bank info to them.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Same question too, I disabled it a while back and I don't notice any problems at all. In fact I also disabled the MS Security Center, why use it when it told me a while back I have everything I need to be secure? Just get another firewall, smack down the ICS and you'll be fine.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
