I am currently obsessed with the Neon Genesis Evangelion music (I have NGE: Decade and the S2 Works Box set). I also recommend the Cowboy Bebop CD-Box OST if you want to get a good idea of what the best CB music is all about).
Am obscure shoutout here: the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory OSTs. They have good lyrical songs (like The Winner) and many many orchestrated songs. Worth a try if you like Gundam 0083.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My reason for preferring Japanese Anime music is the fact that crappy lyrics can be easily hidden from my ears with good singing. Plenty of anime songs that have english lyrics that are just plain dorky. This seems to be the case with almost any song that comes from Japan that uses English. Either they can't judge what makes good lyrics for English speakers or they don't care because they can't understand a word of what's being said to them.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
