I keep my Sony Walkman at a reasonable volume (I use AVLS). As long as I am in a reasonably quiet area, I can hear my music just fine. I don't want to hurt my hears because I want to hear ass thumping bass; if I need to do that, I use my PC's speakers when the situation proves appropriate (but since I live in an apartment, those moments can be far an few between).
