I won't call myself a fan or anything, due in large part to my complete lack of any meaningful knowledge of the genre, or strong desire to listen to it, but i do enjoy the music itself. I listen almost elusively to Heavy Metal so the intensity of "the drop" in dubstep keeps things heavy and familiar, while the simple dance beats are a nice change from the machine gun drum beats and busy fills i'm used to. There's a certain energy that draws me to it, and it's finally a genre i can stand listening to that a good number of my friends also like (something that up until now has been rare).
I'm also adamant about my avoiding the pop culture scene at all costs, and such have no real reason to hate Skrillex beyond the vague assumption that because he's popular he must suck. In my growing interest in electronic music in general i got a list of artists to listen to from a producer friend of mine who is just as picky about music as i am. Skrillex was on the list and I gave him a shot. I found that i don't mind his stuff. I don't love it, and it may turn out that as i learn more about electronic music i find reasons to hate him, but for now he has space on my iPod.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
