Recently i've been examining what drives my lust for collecting games, and i think it's a balance of in and outside of game asthetic value vs. playability and fun. Inside of that i do have a pull towards certain franchises. To put that simply, i like having the box and instruction book to a game, so much so, that i won't even look at those coverless box games EB has in the second hand section. Also might be a reason why i haven't bought many GBA games (have had a DS for almost three years now, and have bought 3 GBA games). This is also pretty much the reason why i don't play ROMs or burn games. I like to buy stuff.
As for playability and fun, i will do research on games, and track them down/buy them impulsivley if i see them. This often stems from my constant franchises that i follow. Those are the games that i will buy without thinking, and pre-order if given the chance. These franchises include: Final Fantasy Resident Evil Zelda Metroid (Prime and Fusion up) among some lesser obsessions. Two smaller parts of my collective consciousness are games from my childhood that i desperately try to track down. I didn't play many games when i was younger in part of my parents limits on their avalability to me, and my having no money at all. It's a smaller list of games that i will require to play again one day, and i've stroked a few off it already. I'm sure i'll never be able to find the others. The last part of it is going to second hand stores and buying what i think will interest me. At the store i frequent there can be amazing stuff there, but you have to dig for it, and you have to buy it right then and there or you'll never see it again. How can you beat Final Fatnasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy Anthology for 8 bucks each. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
