I swear sometimes, but only to add emphasis to something or when I'm really, really angry, and never around people who I know will be offended by it.
The thing I hate about habitual swearers is that it's apparently very difficult to just turn it off in situations where it's not appropriate. It happens all the time when I'm in line at the store or just walking through the mall with my 8-year-old child. I'll pass by a group of kids and one of them will yell "Fuck you, motherfucker!" at the other one, just as we're passing by. And I never know whether to cry or punch someone. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
It's really the same principle as smoking in public, Ence. Your rights end where others' begin. I would never dream of criticizing someone who chooses to curse, excessively or otherwise. But people really should try to be respectful to others when they're in public. If you want to curse, fine by me. Just please don't assume that everyone else should be OK with it. In other words, say what you want to say, just don't blast it too loudly. I think that's reasonable.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Obviously it wouldn't. It just undermines some parents' value systems, which you have no right to do. Some people purposely shield their children from movies, TV shows and situations where they might be exposed to things that THE PARENT (not Joe Q. Public) finds offensive. Some of these things are curse words, drug/alcohol references, violence, sex, etc.
Whether the average man on the street agrees with these parents or not is irrelevant. It's a simple matter of respect. You have to understand that not everyone is comfortable using curse words, and that someone might be offended by them. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
