So - have you been told that you have an accent?

I did a few commercials in my youth. In one of them I was supposed to actually speak, but the owner of the company didn't like the spot because he said I sounded like a "hick" and the producer dubbed over my voice. Then it just looked like a bad kung fu movie. I guess that was more to the advertiser's liking.

It hurts my heart that you said this. I adore a nice, genteel southern accent, and not that my accent is nice or genteel, but I wouldn't change it for anything. I was embarrassed about it when I was young and moved out of the South for a while. Now I'm ashamed of myself for ever being embarrassed about it.
