Hey I've got a few questions about this game.
I was a HUGE fan of the original games for Dreamcast/Gamecube averaging 12-15 hours a day when I had vacation time so this game is a must play for me. I was deciding on which version to get (PS2 or Xbox360), but now that I see that there's a PC version which will work with the PS2 servers it's a done deal, I'm getting the PC one to-fucking-day. What I'd like to know is the following: A) If I buy a headset for my PC can I use voice chat? B) Is Sega FINALLY allowing FO users to put spell shortcuts on their KEYBOARDS! therefore abandoning menu casting (I know this was in Blue Burst so I can only hope they enabled it here.) C) How simillar and how different is this game compared to the last? I think I logged 4000+ hours on the DC+GC versions combined and it was only toward the end that the bland gameplay (I knew it all along I just didn't mind) finally got to me. Is there more to the battle system than hack and slash? Are there finally dodging and evasion moves and that sort of stuff? D) For PS2 / PC players how's the community? E) For veterans of the last game any tips on starting a new game? (I fucking loved the RAcast from last game, he was easily my favorite) F) What became of the 'Mag' are they or something similar still around? Any other feedback is welcomed. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
(I don't want to start a PSO "X" class is better fight, but for my money it was RAcast>RAmarl>RAmar=Racaseal.
If you had someone with Shifta the RAcast's strength is unquestioned. Couple that with the ability to put out Freeze/Confuse traps and it's love. On the other hand you've got RAmarl who was the best solo class in the game as she could Shifta/Deband herself (AND had Zalure/Jellen I believe), and then had the ranger weapon set. As for this game I think I'm going to try the same approach. Start out as a RAcast to get my bearings down as I hear universally that Rangers very rarely get hit. Then when I find my damage is suffering I'll change to a hunter class to up my attack stats. From there I think I'll go all out FOnewearl and become a walking boomstick. After that I think I'll go to a Beast character who specializes in melee, but still has decent spell casting abilities. (I never did like the Human classes. I never had a human character throughout my PSO career and it doens't look like I'm going to start now.) There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, I finally got online. This place is HUGE. Good luck accidentally bumping into anyone.
Currently I'm a Level 5 Cast Ranger Name:Hotobu This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Hm, that's good info. I've been poking around for a while and I can't find where the hell to go to bind photons to my guns. I'm weak enough as it is without being able to cause status effects.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Yeah I found some really helpful people last night that showed me how to do the bullet thing. My problem was that I thought the photons I was finding were the bullets. The description was a little misleading :/
I was speaking idiomatically.

NOT ENOUGH CONTENT! no seriously, is it possible to get an armor with all 4 slots open? I'm assuming if it is buying it or synthesizing is the only way.
BTW the beginning game in PSU is exceedingly arduous. Especially as a ranger. It seems that rangers, moreso than hunters or forces, take quite a while to be worthy characters. While Forces can level their techs to 30 they still do big damage at any level compared to rangers, and if nothing else can resta/reverser the party. To be a useful ranger you need 11+ bullets and a good aray of weapons/traps to make the party see your impact. Just a rant. I'm not debating my choice, it's just what I've noticed thus far. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I'd like that actually, I'm up for some PSU'ing, I'm having a bit of a meseta crisis due to poor purchasing decisions.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I'll idle in Universe 17 Guardian's colony level 4 on the bench by the mission section. I'm doing some surfing rightnow.
Double Post: Wait wait wait, I just noticed something. You have a 360 is this the 360 version you're talking about because me and everyone else play on the PC/PS2 version. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

It could be to account for the double saber circle jerk that was PSO. There were so many varieties of them and EVERYONE and their mother had one. I really can't blame the players as it was a great melee weapon, but there was very little variety.
Double Saber, Twin Brand, Stag Cutlery, Demolition Comet, Twin Lavis, Monkey King Bar, Black King Bar. Did I miss any? As for me Fortegunner is looking better and better. Right now I've got 3 twin handguns and I don't have to babysit their PP that much, but depending on the party and the difficulty of the mission sometimes I find myself taking more time between shots, but with a lower PP usage and a faster regen rate I can really go nuts. Not to mention the insane accuracy boost everything should be status affected within 3 shots. By the way is it just me or does NOBODY use traps? I'm sure it has a bit to do with money being a problem in this game, but I don't even see really high level rangers using them. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Well Protransers also get boosted radius and effect on traps for whatever that's worth.
I also have to agree that Protransers will probably turn out to be a bit of a letdown. I understand that Sega was going for the whole "Jack-of-all-trades master of nothing", but I believe they're a bit too bland in a game that wont reward them for being so. Now if they got half-priced traps, triple range, triple damge, level 10 techs and one or two S ranks, I'd be on board. Oh, is anyone on now? I could go for a light 30 min to 1 hour workout. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I just had a thought. (You)* We should try to go into business with each other. Para's raising a 100 armor PM, I'll EVENTUALLY get to 100 Ranged, and I'm sure some other folks are going for 100 Striking and Technic. We could just have each other synth stuff and sell it at our shops.
*I say you because I'm sure someone will get to 100 ranged before me as I'm going o n vacation for a full month. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
edit: ... I just checked back, yeah somebody bought a Megi-Photon for over 14K. Tomorrow I'm spamming the fuck out of LL C rank. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

BTW heads up to anyone trying to sell 9* guns... start small. I made a small fortune doing it, and I believe the market is saturated. I've got THE lowest prices in all of PSU (400K a piece) and they aren't moving anymore. I haven't sold one in a couple of days. (Although the twin handguns went pretty quickly, it's the Crossbows, G Launcher and P Cannon that are collecting dust.). Which isn't a total loss for me because when A rank grinders come out those will be my backups. Hell when A rank grinders come out I may be able to sell a bunch of the things cause messeta dupers will have no problem buying replacements for their busted weapons.
