I'm up for this certainly. Noob question - When I downloaded a highly illegal copy of Civ 4, it installed seperate desktop shortcuts for Civ4, Warlords, Beyond the Sword and Colonization. Which shortcut would I load from to play BtS and Warlords? Also, is there an in-game screencap option or do you just PrintScreen then Alt-Tab out and paste it somewhere?

I've split out all my tech support posts so as not to interupt the flow of the game. I'll let you all know when I've sorted it and can join in.

I fixed it! Anyone object to me taking a turn now?
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() ![]() |
Right, after all that, it was a pretty much completely uneventful few turns. We discovered archery and I set about researching bronze working, thinking that we might want to start thinning out the forests round Amersterdam soon. I did a spot of micro-managing, cutting down the generation of coins in favour of more food and then, once a new population person became available, a few more hammers. Warrior got built and fortified and I started on another straight away, figuring it'd be better to have the spare Warrior guarding the city while we build a settler rather than having the settler wait for a warrior. I really don't think leaving the city defenseless is a good idea given our luck so far. We'll discover Bronze long before another Settler is ready so that might effect our choice of a new city location I guess.

The new Settler will be finished during Pang's turn, have we decided where to send it yet? We could send them round the mountains to the west to take advantage of all those elephants, although that might be spreading ourselves a little thin with only one warrior for protection at first. If we built the city on a forest tile next to the coast we'd get a decent hammer rate though so should be able to build an archer fairly quickly for defence.

Sorry, been a busy weekend, I'll pick this up this evening.

First turn and it looks like whilst we're getting a kicking in so far as the size of our empire goes, we're not doing too bad in terms of technology:
The archer in the new city was completed and fortified, I set about building a granary. Was tempted to start a worker there but we were two turns away from a new population. Currently our second citizen is set on a square giving one food and one hammer so the city is growing, albeit slowly. There is a suare that gives three hammers and no food if we want faster building instead of growth. The mighty warrior of Amsterdam succesfully defended against both barbarian attackers, gaining a 10% boost to strength as a reward! The Amsterdam workers were completed during the barbarian wars and I sent them off to build a farm on the nearby rice patch, mainly so they wouldn't get killed by the barbarians who were attacking from the other direction. After the workers were completed I started an archer, in case some more barbarians came to kill Turbo. The church of the nativity got built somewhere foreign and some city had a slave revolt. Elizabeth took advantage of the open borders agreement to sail a work boat around the Amsterdam lake. All in all a decent few turns. We're still behind in terms of building and empire size but our technological wizardry may well help us out when it comes to trading with the foreign devils. Save file FELIPE NO ![]() ![]() |
I thought that once you had developed a resource you had to build a road to the nearest city to get the benefit? I also think another worker wouldn't hurt. If nothing else we're surrounded by woodland and chopping it down would speed up that wonder a fair bit. Also if Amsterdam is getting overcrowded, we should think about another settler soon, if nothing else to grab all those elephants before Elizabeth plonks a city on our island.

Sorry about that, had a rather hectic couple of days. I can take a turn tonight or wait till mine comes round again, whatever's easier.

Where exactly were we going to put the new city? The most sensible place might be the wooded hill up where Pang is sending the settler but if we built it on the single square of land below the mountain up north, we could sail ships through it to reach the other side of the island (If it is an island).

I was thinking we could perhaps build one more workboat than we need for the clams and send it off on a voyage of discovery, at least so we know whether to expect invading land armies from the south. If it's a really long way round the continent to the south, a canal might come in handy although I guess a port with decent production on the western half of the island would do just as well.
Are you going to take the next turn Areas or shall I take it? I guess whoever does gets to name the city... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() ![]() |
Yeah, go on Turbo, be bold. Just make sure you give the city a suitably silly name.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() ![]() |
Cool, I'll take my turn when I get home tonight.
Turned out pretty uneventful. Once the courthouse was completed in Amsterdam, I built a Settler then an Archer and sent them off to Cow Town as a stop off to go and found another city. I then started on a work boat to go and explore the coastline a bit. Powahowsa finished its aqueduct so I started on another Archer, thinking that'd speed up the process of yet another defended city. We can build a settler in five turns in Amsterdam currently so I reckon we ought to fill up our immediate continent with cities as soon as we can. There's scientists and prophets and shit being born all over the shop, we might want to build some stuff to get us more great people. Well I'm off on an extended holiday in a couple of weeks so you can take over from me if you want as although I'll have net access, chances are I won't have Civ IV access!

So we've now met Roosevelt of the French, who immediately offered us open borders, which I accepted. We built a missionary in Amsterdam who I sent off to Utrecht to spread the word before building some walls round the city. We also got a great prophet in Amsterdam which I used to build the special Muslim building thingy. I started on a market once the walls were done.
Around the rest of the empire, things were largely quiet, except for another settler getting produced which I sent off towards the north west corner. Save game is here. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() ![]() |
I'm guessing the lack of any opposition units wandering around our continent suggests that even if we're not technically an island, we're separated from eveyone else by impassable mountains? Handy for defence of our realm, not so useful for sending out missionaries and the like.
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() ![]() |
