Wasn't the console version of Battlefield 2 technically subtitled "Modern Warfare" too? I can understand them wanting to distance themselves from Treyarch but I reckon they could have thought of a better name.

Oh yeah, combat not warfare. I guess that's the Altzheimers kicking in.

Cover systems only really make sense in small squad based games or those with an emphasis on stealth. There's not a lot of point hiding behind walls when the enemy are calling in airstrikes on you.
That said, last time I played Halo I killed myself with grenades at least twice by instinctively pulling the left trigger to hug walls Rainbow style. ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() ![]() |

I don't think I've played a single round of Rainbow 6 where the host allowed those heartbeat tracker things so I'd be amazed if they're a standard feature in this. Then again, one would imagine that this will be more running around killing people than stalking them round buildings so a tracker wouldn't be such a game-breaker.

I do actually own quite a few collectors editions and shit but I've never paid more than the standard game costs. I suspect I may not be able to get my hands on these night vision goggles (Or the batarang) for such a low price. That said, Amazon generally discounts the fuck out of CE's after a week or so (As there aren't enough retards to pay full price for a slightly different case and some extra kawaii artwork in Britain generally) so there will probably be a few of these knocking about cheap somewhere down the line. Hell, Amazon still have that silly Halo 3 with a helmet edition in stock. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
And you don't need more plastic crap but you do need a metal dvd case? Edit: Ha ha ha, Amazon are listing the standard edition as having a £55 rrp (Discounted already to £44.96). There's no way I'd buy this on release date, it'll be half that price within two weeks. Interestingly, they're showing Halo ODST as £49.99 discounted to £29.96. I'm amazed that Amazon would think that MW2 is going to outsell a Halo game, especially as ODST comes with Beta access for Halo Reach. The H3 Beta sold thousands of copies of Crackdown after all. I guess so. I'm more surprised that Halo is so cheap, rather than MW2 so expensive. Halo 3 CE is still on sale for £40 now (Classics edition is only £20) and they're planning the new one for less than that? I suppose their pricing policy is based to some extent on the number of pre-orders they get before they finalise the price, there must just be a lot more people wanting to get hold of this than I first thought.
As for the "limited" editions (Only 200,000 made, get it while it's hot!), you know that they're just going to put a pound sign in front of those prices when it comes out over here right? £80 is a stupid amount to pay for a computer game, especially one that'll be available for £30 in the second hand bins five days later. Even if you had your heart set on the metal tin but wanted to play it on launch day I'd suggest renting it for a week or so then buying the tin when the price has come down to normal levels. Additional Spam: Top ten global Xbox Live games for the week ending 23/6/09: 1. Call of Duty: World at War 2. Halo 3 3. Call of Duty 4 4. Gears of War 2 5. Grand Theft Auto 4 6. FIFA 09 7. UFC 2009 Undisputed 8. Left 4 Dead 9. Prototype 10. Fallout 3 Saucy What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]()

You've obviously never bought a game second hand in Brighton then. I can guarantee you there'll be a second hand copy at GAME, going for £30 by the Friday after release, if not more than one. Not the tin box one certainly but there'll be a copy of the game for that price. I'd also expect the retail price to be in line with every other game after a week, i.e. £40 rather than the £55 currently listed.
I could be wrong but that's the way it's gone with every single game released since I've owned a Playstation, I don't expect to see any changes soon. Does your local GAME let you know if there's a second hand copy in stock when you go to buy a new game? The Brighton store do, even if it's at the other branch so it's very rare I'd ever buy a brand new game as people often take things back oddly early once they've got all the easy achievements and there's often a "Store" copy in there too. Ha ha, last time I ordered something off their website, they gave me the discount for my points and never took the points off my card, which was nice.

There were snowmobiles in Battlefield 2 as it happens and whilst it's rare in an FPS, plenty of games have featured some kind of rock climbing mechanic.
I don't doubt that this will be a good game of course, I just don't think there's anything massively revolutionary about it. It's essentially yet another military FPS with the same mixes of equipment that Tom Clancy games have been chucking out since 2001. I think most people are in fact looking forward to it simply because it'll be so similar to the last one, only hopefully with some bugs ironed out, rather than for any new features. I'm not saying you can't be excited about rock climbing and snowmobiles of course, whatever excites you is your own business. ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() ![]() |
It certainly does look slick. I think the only thing that's going to put me off getting this is the fact that so much needs unlocking, meaning more occaisional players like me will always be at a disadvantage in terms of equipment, exaserbating our disadvantages in terms of not playing as much as everyone else.
It won't neccessarily be a problem, provided the starting equipment is decent enough but will be a big turn off if games are dominated by people who play all the time, simply because they've got better guns. Vegas 2 balanced this very well, the automatically unlocked weapons were some of the best in the game and you could compete using any of them against people who'd unlocked everything. All you really gained to give you an advantage from unlocking things was the shield (Which is of limited use in vs matches anyway) and the Glock G18 or Magnum (Again, of limited use in vs matches). Apart from that it was all largely cosmetic or just varied rates of fire and accuracy on some of the guns but nothing game breaking. I've not really played much of any of the other C.O.D. games so I don't know how much advantage you get from unlocking things so I'm hoping it's not too much, otherwise I'll probably pass on this. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() ![]() |
Cool, I might order this then. I had thought it was coming out while I'm away but that's Halo ODST.
Multiplayer achievements and rewards are the death of so many games. There was never much more annoying than playing BF2 and seeing a group of kids in the corner taking it turns to kill each other 6 times with a single clip to get that reward or heal each other 6 times to get that reward and go up a level, although it did make for some easy kills for everyone else. I have nothing against the "Kill x people online" or "Win x matches" as that's just a natural part of playing online but when you get crap like "Kill 25 people on your own team using claymores whilst being careful not to score any other points", it ruins the game by making people play in an unnatural and often, counter-intuitive way. They ought to make an achievement that's stupidly long-winded and boring to get and requires you to play the game like an absolutely useless cunt to achieve then once you get it, it wipes your Xbox's hard drive and sparks off a RROD. That'd fucking learn a few people. Most amazing jew boots ![]() ![]() |
They probably could. Experience with the first game however would suggest that they won't bother.

Also, I wouldn't have called exploiting a glitch in the game cheating the same way using a custom-firmware pad is, or standbying in Halo. You're not doing anything that everyone else can't do after all. Sure, it's a little unsporting but since when has good sportsmanship been even slightly apparent in any Xbox Live game? Fair enough ban people for modifying the game and getting an unfair advantage that way but playing on a broken bit of coding is the devs fault, not the players.

As far as the javelin thing goes, are most online games unrestricted weapon choice then? I only ask as it's incredibly rare to ever find anyone playing Ghost Recon online with explosives allowed. Having not played MW2 though, I'm not sure whether explosives are an integral part of the game or not.
