GFF Snakes and Ladders

Hello everyone and welcome to the new boardgames subforum. Posts here don't count towards postcount and won't show up on the "Recent posts" thingy in order to facilitate the playing of board and dice games, which in some cases, will generate posts that are rather light on content.

Feel free to create your own games in here of any kind although I suspect we might face some legal issues if you guys start playing Craps for real money.

I figured I'd kick things off with a simple game of snakes and ladders. The board I'm going to use is apparently from the South African intelligence service's website:

Rules are simple. On your turn, you roll a six sided dice (So you have to post first, then press the roll button in the post bit then edit in any comments you might have on the result) and move your counter the number of spaces shown along the numbered squares. If you land on the bottom of a ladder you go up it, land at the top of a snake you go down it, roll a 6 you get to roll again. First to square 64 is the winner!

Right I need, what, four people I reckon. Who wants to play?

Edit: In your sign up post, roll a dice to see who goes first and indicate what colour you want your blob to be. It's going to be blobs, MSPaint-tastic!

Players:

AcerBandit!
Aardark! Dark Orchid? Who the fuck named these colours?
Angel of Light!
Zergrinch!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Trade craft! Trade craft! Darn, no trade craft

Also I want nice rainbow color!
Why'd you roll the dice twice?

I think he was rolling to see who goes first and then making his first move but SEEING AS HOW HE NAMED THEM BOTH THE SAME THING it's tough to tell.

Edit: TIEBREAKER, ACER GOES BEFORE AARDARK.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I would like to play as well Shin. I would like to choose the color yellow.

Shin one question, if your on square 61, you have to roll a three to get to square 64 to win right, I've played snakes and ladders in which people would use that rule, but other times people would say as long as you rolled a number and you overlapped square 64 you would still win anyway. I'm just curious that's all.
That makes the game take forever, we'll go with passing the square rather than landing on it this time I think.

Right that's four, let's go!

Psst, AoL, roll the dice to see what order we're going in.

I was speaking idiomatically.

We always played either bouncing back if you roll too high or just getting past to win. Bouncing back gives you the extra excitement of landing on one of the snakes near the end.

Fuck it, I've changed my mind, you have to land on the last square to win the game, roll too high and you bounce back off it!

Edit: Acer to go first then, GAME ON!

So, like I'm going to bed in a few. Can I throw a few (clearly marked) turns so as to not hold anyone up?
If you wish although as a play-by-post game, we shouldn't really expect the current feverish level of excitement to be maintained for long. Also, the high quality update graphics are going to take some preparation so we don't want to end the game too early. Anyway, knowing where you're going to land takes the excitement out of the game rather.

Additional Spam:
Or I could roll for you, you might even win while you're asleep!

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

WILL AARD GET A 5 TO MAXIMISE HIS LEAD AFTER TURN ONE OR WILL IT BE A 6, CRUELLY THROWING HIM BACK TO SQUARE 8?

Well, what a turn that was!

After a promising start, Aardark now languishes at the back, just behind Zerg. Some quality rolling from Acer sees him leap ahead to square 13 but the reall winner that round was Angel of Light who storms ahead up the TRADECRAFT ladder and theoretically, could win in just two turns!

I mean sure, with sixes you could all potentially win next turn but it's pretty unlikely.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

So:

Aardark falls further behind, maybe his game plan is for a late surge, let's hope so! Zerg closes up to Acer a bit but Angel of Life stays clear out in front. He's only got one ladder and three snakes to pass before the end though so anything could happen yet!

Ok, I'm back and let's SNAKES AND LADDER!

At the end of turn 5 (i.e. before Acer and Aard's last rolls) the positions were thus:

OH MY GOD, WHAT A DEVELOPMENT!

With a display of dice rolling the equal of any we've seen so far this match, Zerg lands on the PARTNERSHIP ladder, his teamwork with foreign intelligence agencies shooting him up the board to join Angel of Light in joint first place!

Acer and Aardark continue to vie for the wooden spoon position but as we've seen so often in this game, LITERALLY ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Hold on to your hats people, it's turn 6.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Update time!

A massive roll sees Angel of Light nimbly skip past one of the remaining snakes and take a commanding position a mere 14 squares from the finish! Zerg positions himself nicely but will he make it past INTELLIGENCE FAILURE intact? The scrap at the back loses none of it's intensity as Acer claws back a couple of spaces to all but catch Aardark. They're now both in reach of COORDINATION and a shortcut to square 50 so the next throw could be crucial!

I might have to let someone else run the next game Puck but I don't think it's ever to early to sign up for these things.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

In what must surely now be a two-horse race, Angel of Light pulls ahead again and is within striking distance of the finish. Some good rolling from Zerg could still see him take the crown however and unless Acer and Aardark stop mucking about and concentrate of the task at hand, they'll be leaving this game upset and empty handed. To be fair, everyone's leaving empty handed but there's honour at stake here!

HOLY SHIT WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

With a remarkable display of dice rolling, Angel of Light takes first place! Never before in the history of Gamingforce have we witnessed such a mighty performance on the field of snakes and ladders, congratulations to Angel of Light, may your name forever be spoken in hushed tones by other men, in honour of your victory here today.

So you guys want to play for places or just leave it at that? I'm happy either way.

Well check that out. Skillful ladder use by Acer and a monster of a roll by Aardark have closed everyone right up and second place is looking like a real contest. They say that reality sometimes mimics art and it looks as though the players are going for a reenactment of the 1999 Premier League! Man Utd have run away with it but who's going to clinch that all important Champions League spot?

I'M SO EXCITED I NEED TO SIT DOWN.
