Ended up getting a Hori EX2 arcade stick for the 360 so that I can play fighting games and not have to suffer the 360's horrid d-pad. It's taking a little getting used to, but straight off the bat it's proving to be a better choice than the 360 pad. Arcade sticks are the only way to go for beat em ups. The old Namco Arcade Stick I bought for my PS1 back in '98 is still going strong, I swear the thing is fucking bulletproof.

If nothing else, having a microswitched stick makes it much, much easier to hit the moves and when you're playing games like that, you want to be losing because your timing is off or your move choice was poor, not because you inputted the wrong commands.

I also find using an arcade stick for reissues of old games like R-Type improves the experience no end.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

How long has that Digital Display Discovery thing been up? I was checking my settings the other day and noticed it wasn't set to 1080i and instead showed my resolution as 1444xsomething. I couldn't remember if it had always been like that or not. It certainly doesn't look any different and switching to 1080i made it look worse so it might always have been like that and if so, it'll be interesting to see if this update changes things at all. Apart from that, there's nothing hugely exciting in this update is there. The chances of me ever buying anything for my avatar, other than to burn off an odd number of MSpoints are pretty slim.

On a sort of related note, does anyone know if I buy a prepaid year's gold membership and activate it now, will it kick in now or wait until this year's subscription runs out then kick in? I only ask as my subscription expires while I'm on holiday and I don't want them charging my credit card really.

Cool, I'll pick up a card before I leave. Do you still have to have a credit card tied to your account? Mine expires later this year and I wasn't planning on getting another to replace it, especially if it's just to keep my Live account active.

Yeah, I downloaded the trial version of MvC2 last night (Local vs mode only, nice demo you fucks) and it's basically unplayable with a standard 360 controller. My girlfriend also pointed out that I already own about 12 different Street Fighter games so I might give this one a miss.
