I thought it was a funny typo, wasn't really bashing you or anything. Because I started writing a "The Meat" song in my head (where you basically replace stuff like Techno and Punk with Poultry and vegetables ) Unintentional hilarity!

I'm looking forward to playing it. I'm going to a Guitar Hero tournament Saturday Night at a gamestop near me that is having a midnight launch. Someone got the game early and has been posting videos left and right on youtube. I watched a few of them and it looks like it's going to be the hardest one yet. Speaking of which, Metallica's "One" is in the game, and it has a ridiculous solo

I'm gonna try my best to get a good spot on the leaderboards. Hopefully with all the new code, there won't be any glitches or cheats to ruin the leaderboards like what happened to the 360 version. I'd probably be in the top 200 out of the 600k people if it wasn't for the glitch (and the fact that I don't play often :/)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Normally I try to pick up the game early at a local shop, but I've only succeeded once in getting a GH game early (I picked up GH:80s about 4 days before it's official release date). I saw GH2 on the shelves for PS2 a few weeks before its release date but the computer stopped it from being sold. If it were posted on a bittorrent (PC version) I'd snatch it up just to mess with since I have both a 360 explorer and a PS2 USB controller adapter. Regardless I'm still buying the 360 version at a midnight launch.

My Gamertag is IKarusZino if you want to add me and maybe we can play sometime. I play on expert and I'm fairly good. The only thing that would stop me from passing Through the Fire and Flames is Stamina. I've tried to play along with the youtube videos and I always end up having to stop right before the big solo. I've tried it on other videos too and I get the same way, which is weird. It might just be the "lag" and not actually knowing if I'm hitting the notes or not.

With all the 3-note chords and insane solos, it doesn't look like I'll beat it in one sitting like I did with GH2 and GH:80s. I might actually get tired, which only happens when I play Six. (I can play Jordan all the way through without getting tired, I just can't hit the notes good enough =p)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's the main reason I think I'll have an easier time with TTFAF as opposed to Jordan. Jordan was basically a "Wall of notes" that I couldn't decipher musically. But when I listen to the solos in TTFAF I can hear, understand and logically place on a scale each note of pretty much every solo.

I'm going to jump into this game expert. I'll be playing it all night tonight after midnight

I managed to snag a copy a day early (spur of the moment thing, i was actually checking my sears to see if they had a 360 elite, but they had GH3 on the shelf so I brought it up to be rang up expecting it not to go through.) I didn't even have my credit card out I figured it would be stopped by the register. I figured it would get stopped then I would just shrug it off and ask if he had a 360 elite. It went though, I got the game and I've been playing it for about 5-6 hours nonstop.

I beat Expert Career. I only failed one song the first time playing (Raining Blood- the beginning didn't get me, it was the insanely fast trills at the end- I earned the "almost made it" achievement with this song =p). I also failed the Guitar Battle vs. the final boss, but that's pretty much hit or miss for anyone. It's more luck than skill. I 5-starred almost every song first time through except for the following:

Slipknot - Before I Forget
Queens of the Stone Age - 3's and 7's
Slayer - Raining Blood

The 3-note chords in this game are killer AWESOME. They definitely add a new layer of challenge to the game.

I haven't messed with the bonus songs too much. This game is definitely worth picking up. If you want to track my progress, I'm IKarusZino on the official GH forum too.

I was speaking idiomatically.

So I marathoned GH3 this whole weekend. As I mentioned earlier I picked it up Saturday Afternoon. I've been playing it almost non stop for two days. I beat Expert mode relatively easily (see previous post) and I went through all the bonus songs.

I beat all 4 career difficulties to earn their achievements and cash. A lot of the hidden guitars are wicked awesome For the boss battles on the lower difficulties, I recommend collecting 3 power-ups, and then activating them one by one when your opponent is playing their part. You can also double(Triple?) up effects to really devastate them.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Yeah my hand kind of hurt (the knuckles are still a bit sore now) and for a while my finger tips were tingly and felt calloused.

Darth do you play on 360? if so, what's your GT? (I dunno if you mentioned what system you play on earlier in the thread :P) We should play co-op sometime. (That offer goes for anyone GT: IKarusZino)

Did anyone else download the free Boss Battle DLC Pack on the Xbox marketplace? (might be on PS3 any day now). It's brutal you have to play BOTH Solos. I managed to pass the Devil once but my hand keeps getting tired at about 60% >.>

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

You can't do pull offs on every note. In fact, you shouldn't even be concerning yourself with them because they were only really important in the first guitar hero.

A hammer-on is when you see a series of notes, let's say 3 for example. G-R-Y. The first note is regular while the next two are shining. You can strum the first note and tap the next two notes without strumming.

Pull-offs are the reverse concept. If you see Y-R-G and the Y is regular, to pull off, you have to hold down all three frets before the notes hit the line, Strum yellow and pull each finger off one by one (Strum Y and release, then release R after you hit the note, then stay on green). Every regular note in the entire game has to be strummed regardless of where it is, while shining notes can be both strummed and tapped if you strummed the regular note and are maintaining a combo.

What made GH2 easier was that you didn't have to hold down the lower notes to do parts that descend. So if you saw Y-R-G in GH2, you could Strum Y, release, Tap R, Release, and Tap G. if you managed to hit the notes accurately you would have hit all three.

What makes GH3 easier is they seem to have removed timing with Hammer ons and pull offs. The best example of this is the Halo song or any shining long notes. If you look at the last set of notes on expert (find a video on youtube :P) you'll see they are all shining held notes. If you strum the regular note, and press the next note coming up AT ANY POINT before it reaches the line, as soon as it crosses the line, it'll still count. You can break the current held note (without breaking combo) hold the next note for any length of time before the note reaches the line, and it'll count when it hits the line.

What this means is that for fast hammer-ons you really don't have to be as accurate as you did with GH2. In GH2 you had to tap the hammer ons as soon as they were crossing the line.

You can't pull off any note, if you could, the intro to Take This Life would be a cakewalk, but since you have to strum every single note in most of the beginning, it's very challenging.

How ya doing, buddy?

There seems to be some confusion about the point I was trying to make about pull-offs.

Of course you can hold down lower fret buttons whenever you're pressing a single higher fret button (2 & 3 notes you have to press only those buttons) and this is especially helpful on parts that require you to alternate between the same high and low fret over and over while strumming.

But the actual "use" of a pull-off was the ability to hit a series of fast notes without strumming (the glowing notes). In the original Guitar Hero, this was the ONLY way to hit descending glowing note streams. You had to hold down all the notes in the stream and pull-off each finger at the right time to hit the rest of the notes.

It's hard to explain without pictures :P

Anyway, I'm glad they beefed up the difficulty. If anything, they should put an extra difficulty in between medium and hard to bridge the learning gap. They really can't make the game much harder, and expert should always be considered the top level. (although if they ever announced a "Master" level, I'd be all over that =p)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I personally prefer to play without hyperspeed because I feel better playing the game the way it was meant to be played. I tried hyperspeed briefly and it boosted a bunch of my scores because the notes were easier to read. I kind of felt bad so I only use it when I'm playing against someone who "has" to use it (since I don't have a choice :P and I feel bad for them because it makes me play better =P). I don't really consider it cheating, I just like the extra challenge of having to decipher notes close together.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
