We are very pleased to announce that Xfire has entered into an agreement to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of MTV Networks.

What does the acquisition mean to you? It means that Xfire is now backed by one of the world's leading creators of programming and content across all media. It means that Xfire will continue to grow and enhance your gaming experience. Xfire was created by gamers, for gamers. We will always remain committed to improving gaming with your friends. MTV Networks shares this vision with us, and they will help us to continue building Xfire into a larger and more exciting community, one passionate gamer at a time.

Translation: We're going to make it suck now.

I've enjoyed (other than the weird ads) the support, fast-patching, and awesomeness of this program since forever.

KrazyTaco: And the program will start being "better geared towards teh nations youth"
KrazyTaco: Hip-Hopish default skin
What is the public opinion? Do you feel this will hurt or help the software?

And for those who are unfamiliar, Xfire is a program to chat with other friends online. It shows what game you're playing, and can allow you to join through Xfire into that server or TeamSpeak...and much more.

How ya doing, buddy?

Turning it into something as awful as ICQ and make it more of a popular chat program rather than a gaming tracking program?

I like this stuff. I like it based around stalking me in gaming:

Its a nifty chat/gaming program to let you stalk your buddies. Great for things like BF2, where you can join your friends through the program rather than asking him to crash his copter to check the IP.

It shows the scores of everyone there, details about the servers, lets you join their TS/vent, AND you get a nifty profile showing how much time you've wasted your life away to PC games.

How ya doing, buddy?
