Beckham joins MLS

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?cnn=yes

Quote:
David Beckham, the former England soccer captain known as much for his style as his play, has agreed to leave Real Madrid and join the Los Angeles Galaxy in a deal Major League Soccer hopes will boost the sport in the United States in a manner similar to Pele's arrival with the Cosmos in 1975.

The Galaxy, citing industry experts, said Beckham's deal is worth more than $250 million in salary and commercial endorsements and is "thought to be the biggest in sporting history."
Holy sweet Jesus. He's making A-Rod look like a chump (not that A-Rod doesn't suck or anything), but is something this expensive really going to revive MLS? No.

How ya doing, buddy?

Right, that's the point. I know it will help, but will it help net enough profits for all teams (especially Los Angeles) to grow?

Also, sorry Dopefish for beating you to it! Does this also mean that he'll play for us in the World Cup next time around? (I don't follow it enough to know)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Even if it's a short boost, it works. Take MLBs Home Run chase with McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds. MLB is flourishing since about that time and even if it's just a season or two of energy, it does a ton for the sport.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
