Gelf's Crap!

Here's a bunch of stuff from class. There's a bit of nakedness, but nothing graphic.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Something I did for conceptual illustration a few weeks ago. I really should've colored it, but oh well.

Thanks guys, and yeah magi, you're definitely right about the tree. Originally I had plans to color the picture which wouldl've hopefully corrected the problem. I wanted to give a watercolor effect similar to a Beatrix Potter book. Despite my "fuck junior members!" attitude from time to time, I still have the ability to draw things that are just too cute for their own good. I think a lot of it comes from drawing little animals and stuff like this for girls in middle school. It was always, "Draw me a bunny!" "Draw me a kitty!" and I'd cave... I'd do anything for a pretty girl.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Here's a new one as of lastnight. A watercolor seascape for a class called stylistic development.

Nah, it's actually done. The class on stylistic dev has us go through all of our previous work and find a general trend to our style. Afterwards we apply that to a subject matter and medium that we usually don't use, and see if our "style" comes thru or not. I rarely do landscapes, and rarely use watercolor, but most everybody in the class could tell that it was "my style."

I was speaking idiomatically.

Thanks!

Yeah, Stylistic Dev is actually ART412 with Ron Floyd. The Slow and Steady one is for Conceptual Illustration which is ART 400. I've currently got it as an online course with Paul Andrus, but you can take it at school with Linda if you want.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Thanks for the feedback guys. And Shenlon, I'll see if I can't dig up some of my old stuff and put some links in the first post.

Here are my last two projects for the conceptual illustration class. They were pretty rushed, but oh well.

This first one was supposed to illustrate a sound metaphorically. I chose the sound of "excitement" as the noise a fishing reel makes when a big fish hits.

This last one kind of a political cartoon that remained partisan neutral. My teacher is a Dem and I'm a Rep, so I didn't want to assert my point of view in fear for my grade. Neither did I want to sell out and do something that I didn't agree with. This was the result.

I decided to go with the caption of "You fellas play nice" but it could just as easily have been "I wanna see a clean fight - Let's get ready to rumble!"

Haha, weird, nobody on here has ever posted my real name.

I'd say it was a pretty good class. You have a total of 5 projects including the final where you have to illustrate a preset concept. The first one was to illustrate the nursery rhyme "Jack and Jill" where Jack and Jill could be anything except the obvious, a boy and girl. Basically then, we had to draw in a series of panels the idea of ambition gone wrong in the stages of the poem. I did Jack and Jill as pirates finding treasure, and then betraying each other out of greed.

It's a pretty good class just for the excercises. Really though if you want a lot of feedback and constructive crits, it depends on who the instructor is. I had Paul Andrus who also teaches figure drawing, and he was pretty good. You can also take the course with Linda. I've never had her before, but I hear she's good as well.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Nah, that's cool. I don't mind if people know my first name on here.

Here's my final project for my first semester animation class. It was a joint effort between my brother and me. The encoding is crappy cause it's hosted on photobucket, but you get the general idea.

Hey thanks for the comments Kazyl. The 4th drawing(s) that you asked about, I believe we were given 5mins for the pose. Whenever I begin a gesture drawing like that. I usually put the head in first, or sometimes just a main gesture line of where the spine is. Afterwards I lay in the angle of the shoulders and hips, and then begin to build on top with contour lines of varied weight. With the remaining time, I'll block in some values in the highest constrast areas to emphasize the illusion of depth.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Final Post

From now on, I'm going to be posting my artwork exclusively in my journal. So for those of you who'd like to see more of my work, check there. I'll be updating it on at least a weekly basis as I've got so much stuff to do for class.
